No Tax-Free Holiday Weekend in Forsyth County, GA but Plenty of Back to School Sales

The GA legislature voted not to have a tax-free weekend this year, but that isn’t stopping retailers from having cost-cutting back to school sales.

If you have a favorite store, now is the time to check out their Twitter, Facebook, web sites and email newsletters for extra savings. Many sales are starting tomorrow through the weekend.

Sears is having a one-day sale today. North Georgia Premium Outlets is having a back to school preview this weekend. Belk, JC Penney, and many other retailers are also having sales. It is a good time to shop! Let me know if you hear of any other great sales.

Movies in the Park Free Outdoor Movie Returns to Cumming, GA Tonight!

One of my favorite free local events is happening tonight at the Polo Fields in Cumming, GA! Grab a blanket and get the kids to the movie in the park! Watch Alvin & The Chipmunks 2: The squeakquel under the starts. No antsy kids in movie seats here! They can run around and play. There are also free events before the movie begins including a clown show, bounce houses, face painting and more!

See the article about it in Forsyth News.

Southern Outdoor Cinemas will hold two movie nights, one Saturday and one Aug. 21, both at the Polo Club soccer fields. The free events provide games and activities for children beginning about 7 p.m., followed by a feature family film at sundown. This Saturday, “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel” will be shown, while “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” will hit the blown-up screen in August.

Playing in Fountains within 30 Minutes of Forsyth County, GA

We first visited the fountain at Mall of Georgia and have since ventured out to Suwanee Town Center Park and Playtown as well as Duluth Town Green in Duluth, GA.

These three locations are wonderful places to visit within 30 minutes of home. Pack a picnic, swimsuit and a change of clothes and off you go!

Playtown is a shady playground and the town center has lots of space for picnics as well as shops and restaurants. Duluth Town Green has shady areas, benches and swings, a playground and surrounding shops and restaurants that make it inviting for an afternoon. Add to these places their events calendars and concerts, art shows and the like are also bringing people to these wonderful parks.

Free Outdoor Movies in the Park

The 2010 summer schedule has been released for movies in the park in North Georgia. I love the festival atmosphere and there are usually bounce houses and lots of neat local vendors to visit before the movie begins.

Movies in the Park (tm) are free outdoor movie festivals that are held in parks throughout North Georgia all summer long.  Locations for the 2010 Georgia Movies in the Park series include Canton, Dawsonville, Cumming and Johns Creek.

At a Movies in the Park event, you can expect plenty of family friendly activities.  Prior to each movie, which are shown under the stars, is a festival that includes face painting, children’s activities, inflatables, vendors and concessions.  The outdoor movie itself is shown on Southern Outdoor Cinema’s  huge inflatable movie screen with pictures that are bright & colorful and sound that is crystal clear.

Admission to the Movies in the Park events are FREE. Just bring your blankets or low-back lawn chairs.
