Forsyth County Christmas Light Show to Benefit Family Haven Charity

Forsyth County, GA (November 15, 2010) –Local extreme Christmas decorators, Larry Drum, Brian Todd and Chris Hoard have turned their passion for lights and the joy of Christmas into a major charity event for Forsyth County Family Haven. Forsyth county families are invited to experience this spectacular holiday light show this Christmas season, and at the same time have the opportunity to give back to the local community.

This is the fifth year for the show and once again it is bigger and better than last year with over 150,000 lights “dancing” to the beat of 12 songs. The decorators hope the spirit of the season will directly help raise funding and awareness for Family Haven, which provides victims of domestic violence and their families a variety of services.

The light and music show kicks off Thanksgiving night at 5:30 p.m. and runs every night through New Year’s day. The show runs until 9:00 p.m. Monday – Thursday and until 10:00 p.m. Friday-Sunday. Visitors are asked to tune their radios in their cars to 88.1 FM to enjoy the music and spectacular lightshow. The display is located on Bryn Ridge Court in the Haley Farms subdivision in northwest Forsyth County (Cumming, GA 30028.)

As a special treat, Judy Pancoast, the artist behind the song “The House on Christmas Street,” will be performing live on Wednesday, December 22nd at 6:00 p.m. This song has been used by extreme decorators around the world, and is popular with children, teens and adults.

Donations of cash and goods will be accepted every night to benefit Family Haven. The shelter is in need of the following items, and greatly appreciates the community’s assistance:

Happy Thanksgiving! Counting Blessings.

Thanksgiving has become one of my favorite holidays. No presents, just family, friends, food, football and thankfulness. I count my blessings every day. I have a wonderful husband, daughters and family and friends. It is nice to take the time to slow down in life and reflect all that is good in the world and in our lives. From our home to yours, happy Thanksgiving.

For those of you planning your shopping after the holiday, I recommend you check out Black Friday ads to keep up with the madness!

Take a Family Hike at Sawnee Mountain Preserve

Last weekend, my family and I went to Sawnee Mountain Preserve and hiked to the top of the mountain. The hike we took was 1.6 miles one way and the climb was gradual, which is good for children. Our daughters are 7 and 4 and they did not have any problems with the hike. At the top, the view was spectacular and we saw the “Indian Seats” or rocks that are at the top.

After the hike we had a picnic lunch and sat at a picnic table. The kids played on the playground and we checked out the facilities. It was a wonderful and clean place and we will definitely return!

Sawnee Mountain Preserve

Sawnee Mountain Preserve offers 720-acres of scenic mountain space. The views of the Appalachian Mountains from the top of Sawnee are some of the most spectacular in the state. Sawnee Mountain offers plenty of activities, including rock climbing, more than 3 miles of nature trails, environmental education and picnicking.
