Recycle your Christmas Tree, Start the Year off Green!

I hope you had a wonderful holiday! I received this from the Forsyth County Government web site and wanted to share with you the drop off locations to recycle your tree in Cumming, GA.

Keep Forsyth County Beautiful

Christmas Tree Recycling

KFCB recycles thousands of trees during annual ‘Chipper’ event

Forsyth County residents have made it a tradition to end the holiday season by recycling thousands of Christmas trees annually during the “Bring One for the Chipper” Christmas tree recycling event. In 2010 alone, Forsyth County residents recycled 5,950 trees.

After the presents have been opened and the final ornaments are removed from the tree, Keep Forsyth County Beautiful (KFCB) is inviting residents to recycle their trees at numerous locations throughout the county from December 26 through January 22. A wood chipper then processes the recycled trees into mulch.

“The number of Christmas trees recycled in Forsyth County grows every year, which is encouraging,” said Environmental Program Manager Tammy Wright. “Recycling the trees is good for the environment and provides mulch to cover walking trails as well as help the ground around plants retain moisture.”

On the designated dates and times, Christmas trees can be dropped off at the following locations:

· Home Depot – 1000 Market Place Boulevard
Accepting trees only January 8, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Please, no trees at this site after 4 p.m. on January 8

· Home Depot – 2635 Peachtree Parkway

· Vickery Creek Elementary – 6280 Post Road

· Tolbert Street Recycling Convenience Center – 351 Tolbert Street
770.781.2176, open Monday – Saturday, 7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Accepting trees December 27 through January 22

· Old Atlanta Recycling Convenience Center – 3678 Old Atlanta Road
770.205.3010, open Monday – Saturday, 7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.

· Coal Mountain Recycling Convenience Center – 3560 Settingdown Road

Please note that all three recycling convenience centers will be closed on New Year’s Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Free tree seedlings and vegetable seeds will be available while supplies last on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at all sites beginning at 9 a.m. on a first come, first served basis.

If you are interested in receiving mulch created by the tree recycling, visit www.keepgeorgiabeautiful.org and click on the chipper icon in the center of the page for more information. Wood chips are also available for county residents near the Forsyth County Roads and Bridges facility on County Way.

For more information call KFCB at 770.205.4573.

“Bring One for the Chipper” started in Georgia in 1991. Forsyth County residents have been participating since 1994 and have recycled more than 67,000 trees during that time.

The Nutcracker, set to Tchaikovsky’s glorious music, is a heartwarming holiday tradition for every member of the family.

You will be dazzled by a Christmas tree that grows larger than life, a lively battle between soldiers and mice, snow that falls and much more. Sawnee Ballet Theatre’s production of this enchanting full-length ballet brings the magical characters in Clara’s dream to life.

Each year, Artistic Director Joan Kall Stewart brings something new to the performance, and this year is no exception!

The Nutcracker Story
At a Christmas party hosted by the Silverhaus family, Clara receives a nutcracker in the shape of a toy soldier from Herr Drosselmeyer. After the party, Clara has an incredible dream where magical things happen! A battle rages between huge mice and the Nutcracker’s toy soldiers. When Clara saves the Nutcracker’s life, an evil spell is broken, and he turns into a handsome Prince. Clara and the Prince journey to the Land of Sweets where dancers from around the world perform for Clara to honor her for her bravery.
