Summer Reading Programs in Cumming, GA – Earn a Free Book!

Barnes & Noble has a summer reading program for children. Download the journal, read any 8 books and track them in your journal, and earn a free book! There is also a parent activity kit to download with fun activities and teaching tips.

The Forsyth County Public Library has a summer reading program. Sign up online or at the library. Kids set a reading goal and record their reading times on a spreadsheet and earn a book at the end of summer.

From the FCPS library website:
Travel around the world as you read what you love best this summer. Sign up for “One World, Many Stories.” Set a goal and, when you meet it, earn a prize book of your choice. You can register until July 31. You can record books and pick up prizes (while supplies last) until August 22.
To register:
1. Click the “Sign Up” box and then fill in your library card number and PIN. If you don’t have a full-service library card, you can find out how to get one here. If you don’t remember your PIN, you can emailit to yourself. Or, you can ask library staff to assist you. Remember your PIN–you’ll need it each time you log in to this program.
2. Enter your name, school, and grade in Fall 2011. The library will send Forsyth County public K-12 schools a list of all its students who sign up for Summer Reading. Your teachers will be glad you read this summer!
3. Set your personal reading goal. You can ask a grown-up to do this with you.
4. If you’re using your parent’s card to sign up, put your own name in the  “Alternate Name” box. That way, your name will appear on certificates and on the report the library sends to your school.

Summer Field Trips in Forsyth County, GA

Scientist birthday party from Imagine That

I just learned about two groups of moms that plan field trip outings for summer in and around Forsyth County, GA. What a great idea! Here is a list of the groups if you need ideas for some outings for your kids – age ranges about 6 and under. Also don’t forget to check the Forsyth Mommies calendar for summer fun!

Tots About Town plans local outings in the mornings so you have time to run errands and hit the pool or let the little ones have nap time. They have a printable calendar so you can plan your day.

KidVentures Atlanta plans field trips that are about 2 hours in length for kids ages 2 – 12. The neat thing on their web site is that you can sign up for and purchase a field trip on the web site. Some field trips fill up so you will want to be sure to sign up if you know you will be able to go.

Both require parental supervision for your children.

Do you know of any similar groups? If so, please share!

Also, we just attended a friend’s birthday party at her house – it was a science theme and Imagine That came out to the house and showed a group of 7-8 year old girls science experiments. They loved it!
