Cumming Christmas Parade and Festival on Saturday, December 3, 2011

Santa in the Cumming Christmas Parade.

The Christmas Parade in Cumming, GA is this weekend! In addition to a fun parade, there is a Jingle Jog 5K and the Celebration of Lights with the lighting of the Christmas tree at Northside-Forsyth Hospital.

Here is the schedule:

9:00 am Jingle Jog – Join the Forsyth County Community Connection for the Jingle Jog 5k. This fun race will start at Cumming Town Center on Marketplace Boulevard, traveling east down Mary Alice Park Road loop bringing you back to Cumming Town Center. The Jingle Jog is a chip timed race, with water stops along the way and a festive t-shirt. Walkers are welcome! For everyone’s safety, jog strollers and pets are not permitted in race.

3:30 pm – 4:30 pm – Christmas Parade on Marketplace Blvd., Cumming, GA – cheer on the community and celebrate the holidays with this annual Christmas parade!

4:30 – 6:30 pm – Celebration of Lights, Northside Hospital – Forsyth, Cumming, GA – Bring your family and friends and enjoy entertainment from local groups and schools, photos with Santa Claus and many other activities for the kids. WSB-TV anchor Fred Blankenship will serve as emcee. Christmas trees will be lit in Atlanta, Alpharetta and Cumming, with lights on the trees representing those who have been affected by cancer.

Christmas in Cumming Light Show to Benefit Forsyth County Family Haven

Six years in the making and still growing. The Christmas in Cumming Light Show will once again thrill thousands and help Forsyth County Family Haven in the process.

With 6 houses this year and about a quarter million lights dancing to 20 delightful Christmas songs, this years show promises to be stunning. Drive through and experience the show from inside. Houses light up and dance with the music while you listen on your car radios. Help Forsyth County Family while you visit with your donations of cash or shelter supplies. The shelter is in need of the following items, and greatly appreciates the community’s assistance:

All Size Diapers

Twin Sheet Sets

Copy Paper

Baby Wipes

Laundry Detergent

Swiffer Wet Jet Refills

The light and music show kicks off Thanksgiving night at 5:30 p.m. and runs every night through New Year’s day.  The show runs until 9:00 p.m. Monday – Thursday and until 10:00 p.m. Friday-Sunday.  Visitors are asked to tune their radios in their cars to 88.1 FM to enjoy the music and spectacular lightshow.  The display is located on Bryn Ridge Court in the Haley Farms subdivision in northwest Forsyth County (Cumming, GA  30028.)

Friday, November 18

5:00 pm – 10:00  pm – The National BBQ Cup – Cumming Fairgrounds, 235 Castleberry Rd, Cumming, GA – Bring the entire family and enjoy all of the activities. With a variety of different food and craft vendors, product demonstrations, live entertainment, a kids zone and, of course, the Kansas City Barbeque Society sanctioned BBQ cook-off, there’s sure to be something for everyone! Entertainment sponsored by 94.9 The Bull “Backyard Country” Stars! Proceeds go to Bald Ridge Boys Lodge, Jesse’s House, and Forsyth County Community Connection.

Saturday, November 19th

9:00 am – 2:00 pm – Christmas Yard and Bake Sale – Deer Creek Shores Church, 7620 Lanier Drive, The Presbyterian Women of Deer Creek Shores Church will have a Christmas yard and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 19. 10:00 am  – 7:00 pm – Christmas in Central Park! 2300 Keith Bridge Rd., Cumming, GA – This wonderful event will be held Saturday, November 19th and Sunday, November 20th, 2011. Over 100 talented artists will be displaying their work inside the Holiday cheer-filled gyms of Central Park. Enjoy one-of-a-kind gifts, delicious food at the Sugar Plum Cafe’, singing and pictures with Santa!

Friday, November 11

Happy Veteran’s Day – you are heroes. Thank you for your service and sacrifice.

Stars & Strikes – Veteran’s play and eat free! A deal and a meal.

10:00 am – 6:00 pm – Cumming Steam, Antique Tractor and Gas Engine Exposition – Come out and see working exhibits such as a cotton gin, saw mill, shingle mill, baker fan and many others. The Cumming Fairgrounds is one of the finest show grounds in the south. Come take a walk back in time. Admission: 13 and up $5.00, 12 and under FREE.

6:00 pm – WOW Holiday Festival at Freedom Tabernacle. Come join us at the Ladies Wow Event at the Freedom Tabernacle this Friday Nite from 6-10 p.m.. We have about 20 vendors selling all kinds of holiday joy!!! 2160 Freedom Parkway, Cumming, GA.

Saturday, November 12

9:00 am – 7:00 pm – Bethlehem Baptist Church, 5528 Post Road, Annual Fall Bazaar. There will be a silent auction, raffles, cake walk, a country store and more.

10:00 am – Girls on the Run 5K at Lambert High School. Show support to the girls on the run or get out there and run with them!

10:00 am – Lowe’s Build and Grow – Science Lab. Show your kids that science can be fun! Bring them to Lowe’s and they can build this science lab! Includes cards with cool experiments they can do at home!

10:00 am – 11:00 am – Button Ring event at Michaels. Make-It Take-It with purchase of buttons. Ages 14 & up. While supplies last.

11:00 am – Barnes & Noble story time at The Avenues Forsyth.

1:00 pm – 4:00 pm – North Lanier Baptist Taste of Christmas. Many area restaurants will serve samples of their food, a silent auction will feature unique items, professional services, gift certificates and more. Local crafters will have items for purchase that will make wonderful Christmas gifts! Tickets are only $8.00 per person.  Includes free photo with Santa.  Proceeds support the North Forsyth Raider Marching Band.

6:00 pm – 8:00 pm –  Good Shepherd Catholic Church’s seventh annual chili cook-off. All you can eat for $5, or enter a pot for $5 and eat for free. Halloween has come and gone. What to do with your old pumpkins? A few years ago, our family started an annual pumpkin toss off of our back porch and see how far we can throw it into the woods.

11:00 am – 2:00 pm – Creekside MOPS Holiday Showcase – Creekside UMC MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) is hosting their annual Holiday Showcase Craft Fair.  Bring your friends and come get an early start on your Holiday Shopping.  Nearly 70 vendors will be selling gifts to home decor and everything in between! $1.00 admission.

5:00 pm – 8:00 pm – CougarFest – Fall Festival at Cumming Elementary festival and market.

Saturday, November 5

8:30 am – 1:00 pm Cumming First United Methodist Church Christmas Bazaar – Brunch and Lunch, Eat, Shop and Enjoy! Handmade crafts, decorations, baked goods.

10:00 am – 1:00 pm – Grand Reopening McDonald’s on Atlanta Highway – People painters 10 – 1, Ronald McDonald in-store appearance 1:00 pm – prize drawings, photos with Ronald!

11:00 am – Barnes & Noble at The Avenues Forsyth – Story time for you and your little ones.

11:00 am – 3:00 pm – Archery Festival, Ducktown Park, Cumming, GA – For archery events, there will be lessons for youth and adults, prize targets, candy targets, 3D foam animal targets, and more! We’ll have food and drink for sale. Come on out for fun! Benefitting the ‘Hunter Williams Special Needs Trust’. Hunter Williams is one of our own club members, and at only 12 years old, needed and received a heart transplant in September of this year. We’re pulling out all of the stops this year for one of our own!

12:00 – 2:00 pm – Michaels Veteran’s Day Flag Event. FREE Make-It Take-It. Ages 3 & up. While supplies last.

1:00 pm – VFW – Turkey shoot on Saturday 1:00 pm fundraiser

APPLE ORCHARDS/CORN MAZES/FARM FUN

It is the end of apple season!  Here is a directory of apple orchards and festivals in North Georgia. There are also corn mazes opening from Buford to Uncle Shuck’s to the North Georgia corn maze! Cagle’s Family Farm and Kinsey Family Farm are fun-filled places to visit.
