City of Cumming July 4th Celebration and Steam Engine Parade

steam engine parade july 4th in cumming, gaOne of our favorite family events in Forsyth County is the annual July 4th celebration at the Cumming Fairgrounds. The fun starts at 6:00 pm on July 3 and continues through the 4th of July with a steam engine parade and lots of festivities and fireworks.

The City of Cumming has the BEST 4th of July Celebration around!! Our Independence Day Celebration begins on July 3rd at 6:00 p.m. with various vendors including food and drink, inflatables for kids, a live band, wonderful fireworks display along with an all-age dance contest following the fireworks. Bring your blanket, set out on the lawn and enjoy the festivities. There is no admission or parking fee for the July 3rd celebration!

On July 4th, come and enjoy the famous 55th Annual Steam Engine Parade beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Parade will include steam engines, antique tractors, antique cars and many other floats decorated in the spirit of the holiday. Following the Steam Engine Parade you can take a closer look at the steam engines, tractors and cars at the Fairgrounds.

The parade will begin at the intersection of Tribble Gap and Woodland Drive and ends at the fairgrounds.

New Forsyth County, GA Parks and Green Space Opening

Caney Creek Preserve playgroundForsyth County Prepares to Open Four New Green Space Passive Use Parks

New parks total approximately 282 acres

Forsyth County residents will soon have four new green space passive use parks to explore and enjoy. The county plans to officially open the new Caney Creek Preserve, Haw Creek Park, Chattahoochee Pointe and Old Atlanta Park with ribbon cutting ceremonies scheduled for the coming weeks.

The new parks feature trails for walking and mountain biking, a dog park, canoe launch, playgrounds and more and together total approximately 282 acres.

“Our parks and recreation system is one of Forsyth County’s greatest assets and these four new parks will no doubt be a great addition to it,” Commission Chairman Jim Boff said. “We are thrilled to be opening these new parks for residents to enjoy.”

Caney Creek Preserve (2755 Caney Road)
Scheduled to open Friday, June 22, 2012 at 1 p.m.
The approximately 63-acre Caney Creek Preserve features 1.2 miles of walking trails, a dog park, two pavilions, natural amphitheater and a one-of-a-kind playground with an archeological dig site and water play area. The park is located off of Caney Road, west of the intersection of Caney Road and Brookwood Road.

Haw Creek Park (2205 Echols Road)
Scheduled to open Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 10 a.m.
Haw Creek Park, located off of Echols Road and spanning approximately 85 acres, includes an approximately 3.3-mile multi-use trail for both foot travel and mountain bikes. Pavilions and a multi-pod playground with a woodlands theme are also among the park’s features.

Chattahoochee Pointe (5790 Chattahoochee Pointe Drive)
Scheduled to open Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 2 p.m.
This approximately 100-acre park borders the Chattahoochee River and features a canoe launch. Two pavilions, more than two miles of walking trails and a river-themed nature-inspired playground are also included at Chattahoochee Pointe. The entrance to the park is off of Old Atlanta Road, approximately 0.4 miles south of the entrance to Olde Atlanta Club.

Old Atlanta Park (810 Nichols Road)
Scheduled to open Friday, June 29, 2012 at 2 p.m.
Old Atlanta Park is located at the intersection of Nichols Road and Old Atlanta Road across from Lambert High School. The park consists of a total of approximately 39 acres, 34 of which are passive use space. The passive portion of the park features a natural playground, a tot-lot for children age six and under, two pavilions, a 1-mile walking trail and a spray pad. Once opened, the spray pad is slated to remain open for the season through September 3. Hours of operation will be Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. On Mondays, the spray pad will be closed for maintenance and private rentals. Daily admission for the spray pad is $2 per person (one year old and up); annual individual passes ($30) and annual family passes ($50) will also be available.

The park’s remaining five acres house the new 40,000-square foot Old Atlanta Park Recreation Center, which opened in February 2012.

11:00 am – Barnes & Noble at The Avenue Forsyth storytime. The Cat in the Hat is here for a chat! Hear a book about the Cat and take your picture — just like that! Fun for all ages.

Alvin & The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked – Movie begins at sundown 8:45 pm.

Activities:
Outdoor movie on a giant inflatable movie screen in HD, children’s activities, inflatables, face painting, Lovey’s Funtastist Kids Show and concessions. Some activities may have a small fee. Event is RAIN OR SHINE.  In case of rain, the movie will be held under the arena. Bring a chair, blanket, bug spray.

The 23rd Annual Mountain Top Rodeo on Friday, June 22nd, and Saturday, June 23rd at R-Ranch in the Mountains, 65 R-Ranch Rd., Dahlonega, GA 30533. This year promises to be one of the best years to date with non-stop action, hilarious antics, and more fun than you can handle. Authentic sanctioned Rodeo events provide great entertainment for all ages. Michaels Passport to Imagination Summer Craft Schedule.

Starting tomorrow, Michaels Passport to Imagination offers a craft adventure where kids can learn about different countries and cultures.

The schedule is Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm from June 19 – July 28. Let the journey begin! There are also coloring sheets on the website.

Our Famed Mellow Artist, Dusty Griffin, created the artwork for a custom coloring sheet for the kids, young and old, and we are collecting donations to help support Children’s! Come in, have some fun and support Children’s : )
