The weekend is finally here! Here is a roundup of local free and cheap kid-friendly events in Forsyth County, GA. Now that the weather is cooler, let’s get outside and play!

Friday, August 10

4:00 pm – 7:00 pm – Brookwood Farmers Market  – At a new location this year – Caney Creek Preserve. Lots of fun activities for the kids, fresh produce, unique crafts, musical entertainment and more!

5:00 pm – Mellow Mushroom at The Avenue Forsyth – Family Fun Friday. For the kids: Balloon Art at 5 PM, Medium Cheese Pizza $10, $3 Mel’s Kids Floats. For the Adults: Live music at 7:30 PM.

Saturday, August 11

7:00 am – Noon – Cumming Fairgrounds Farmer’s Market. Support local farmers and enjoy fresh produce, tasty baked goods and other neat finds.

9:00 am – 4:00 pm  Big Creek Arts & Crafts Fair at First Redeemer Church, 2100 Peachtree Parkway, Cumming, GA 30041. The Big Creek Arts & Crafts Fair is an annual event held at First Redeemer Church in Cumming, GA.  There are hundreds of vendors with arts and crafts including such items as original art, floral arrangements, woodworking, clothing, candles, jewelry and so much more!  A SILENT AUCTION takes place during the day and features great items for the whole family. Unlike any other Craft Show, Big Creek Arts & Crafts Fair gives away door prizes every 15 minutes keeping visitors coming back often during the day.

11:00 am – Barnes & Noble storytime at The Avenues Forsyth. It’s Doodle Day! Do you like art? Join us for a fun Storytime with a awesome doodle craft! Great for ages 4 and up!

11:00 am – Quarter Midget Racing – Cumming Fairgrounds -The North Georgia Quarter Midget Association welcomes you and your family to come out and watch the races. Admission is free; we have concessions and plenty of excitement for the whole family. Quarter Midget Racing is a family oriented sport for children ages 5 to 16. Children race in Quarter Midget cars that are a scaled-down (approximately 1/4 scale) version of an actual midget-racecar on oval tracks that are approximately 1/20th of a mile.

12:00 pm – Barnes & Noble special event at The Avenues Forsyth. Klutz Explore the Galaxy Event. Parents and children ages 4 and up are invited to the Klutz Explore the Galaxy Hands-On Learning event. Kids will have fun designing and coloring stickers for decorating the night sky and space-themed scenes.

ALL WEEKEND

Lakewood 400 Antiques Market – Always the 3rd weekend, the Market features Antiques, Home Decor and Collectibles. Come shop as over 150 dealers have brought treasures form all over to North Georgia.

9am – 5 pm Friday
9am – 6pm Saturday
10 am – 5 pm Sunday

$3 Admission Friday – Sunday (good all weekend) (children under 12 free)

CONSIGNMENT SALE

8/16 -8/18 – Midway United Methodist Church consignment sale. Located at 5025 Atlanta Highway Alpharetta, Georgia 30004. Spring and Fall, Midway United Methodist Church conducts a Children’s Consignment Sale held in Alpharetta, Georgia. You can buy and sell infant, children, and teen items such as:  toys, outdoor toys, bikes/scooters, clothes (infant to teen/junior), books/movies, computer games, games and systems (X-box, Playstation, Wii, Nintendo), furniture and accessories, just to name a few!  Come shop us and find quality clothes at consignment prices – especially on the last day when most everything is half price!

MONDAY

4:00 pm – 11:00 pm – Carrabba’s Grand Opening! Forsyth County welcomes Carrabba’s Italian Grill to the neighborhood. 50% of sales goes to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Dine for a great cause! Open daily for dinner from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm.
