How to Choose a Summer Camp from Primrose Christopher Robin

summer camp at primrose christopher robinPrimrose Schools® Balances Fun with Learning through its Summer Camp Program

Extending Imagination into the Summer

Throughout the school year, the daily schedule for Primrose students puts a focus on learning literacy, math and critical thinking skills. They participate in activities specifically designed to teach them how to adopt a healthy lifestyle, use their imaginations, and express themselves creatively. Most importantly, the schedule is grounded in an emphasis on character development and on helping students learn to regulate their thinking, emotions, and behavior. The instruction, attention and support children receive from their teachers prepares them for success in the school years ahead.

Participating in this kind of balanced program doesn’t have to stop at the end of the school year! This summer, Primrose Christopher Robin will offer summer camp sessions that will enable children to have fun, explore interesting topics AND learn. At Primrose, learning doesn’t take a vacation during the summer. Having fun and learning can go hand in hand. In fact, when we make sure children have opportunities to play with ideas and exercise their imaginations, we’re encouraging them to become lifelong learners. With creative themes and stimulating activities, Camp Primrose is the perfect summer program.

Summer camp programs that include educational components are becoming increasingly popular as an option for parents looking for summer childcare. By visiting summer camp programs in the local community and talking with the staff, families can match their summer goals with the best summer camp experience for their child.

Here are a few tips about how to choose the best summer camp program for your child:

Include your child in the decision. You probably already know most of activities your children enjoy, but ask them what they would add as you make a list together. Then you can begin looking for a program that offers themes that focus on these interests. If you know your child is interested in learning something new, look for a program that provides opportunities to explore these topics in a fun and interactive way.

Choose a well-rounded or balanced program. As summer camps grow increasingly popular, there are more and more options to choose from. Choosing a program offered by an accredited educational organization will ensure that your child will be learning and having fun at the same time.

Visit the location. Summer programs distribute a great deal of written information and brochures, but you will always get a better idea and feel for the program by visiting the location and talking with the staff. Don’t be afraid to ask questions.

Ask other parents and children. Find out where parents in your community have sent their children for summer camp in the past and what their children thought of the experience. Word of mouth is a proven decision-making factor in choosing the best option for your family.

Primrose School of Christopher RobinPrimrose Christopher Robin is an accredited private preschool that provides a premier educational child care experience. The Leader in Educational Child Care®, we partner with parents to help children build the right foundation for future learning and life. Our goal is to help children have fun while building Active Minds, Healthy Bodies and Happy Hearts®.

Earth Day: 10 Things You Can Do Right Now to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

buy_fresh_buy_localEarth Day is Monday, April 22. There is no better time than the present to appreciate Mother Earth and practice conservation.

Here are some Earth Day tips and little things that we do around our house every day that are easy and make a difference:

Water conservation

Not rinsing dishes before we put them in the dishwasher (it was a hard behavioral pattern to stop!)
Collect cold water in a bucket in the shower before the water gets warm and use it to water inside/outside plants
Brush teeth without water running
Collect rain water in barrel and water outside plants
Use low flow toilets

Energy conservation

Install a programmable thermostat
Replace air filters regularly
Wrap water heater in a blanket
Unplug electronic devices (they still use electricity if turned off and plugged in)
Change our light bulbs to CFL bulbs
Recycle cardboard, glass, plastic, newspaper, aluminum, magazines, etc.
Hang energy-efficient curtains over windows
Install window liner during winter season to insulate wall

Grocery shop with a fabric bag
Reuse water bottles and cut plastic usage
Plant a tree

Recycle cork at Whole Foods Market or make Cork art and charms!

Reduce junk mail

Cut direct mail catalogs and junk mail – use Catalog Choice to stop receiving unwanted catalogs.

An new organization called 41pounds.org promises to completely remove you from up to 95% of the junk mail lists by contacting each organization from which you receive mail and/or catalogs for a one-time fee of $41.

Here is an opt-out guide to junk your junk mail from The Center for the New American Dream.

Recycle Rechargeable Batteries and Cell Phones

Have you noticed recycle bins at retailers like Lowe’s and Home Depot? In addition to the usual paper and plastic items, you can also recycle rechargeable batteries and old cell phones. Keep these items out of the dump (toxic!) and make sure you recycle them on your next run. To find a drop-off location, visit Call2Recycle.

Buy Fresh, Buy Local

Support local farmers and visit a Farmers Market. There are lots of neat places in Forsyth County like Cumming Harvest, Brookwood Farmers Market, Cane Creek Farm, Cumming Farmers Market. Want to visit a market elsewhere? Check out this listing of community farmers markets in Georgia.

Resources

After watching Al Gore’s documentary “An Inconvenient Truth”, I learned little things we can all do daily from the Climate Crisis web site. There is even a calculator to determine our personal carbon footprint.

Treehugger.com is another good resource to get ideas and read news.

I also use Freecycle to clean house, avoid taking items to the dump and to share with those in need.  I just unloaded a mattress and headboard to a woman for her grandson’s bedroom!

Remember to reduce, reuse, recycle whenever you can. How is your family helping the environment?
