Weekend Events for Cumming, GA for April 5 – April 7, 2013

n ga quarter midget racingIt’s time to enjoy the last weekend of spring break for Forsyth County schools! Here’s a roundup of things to do in Cumming, GA this weekend.

Friday, April 5

1:00 – 1:45 p.m. –  Cumming Library – Animals Rescue 2.0 for Teens – Get educated about animal welfare and visit with certified therapy dogs. Presented by Humane Hearts.

1:15 pm – Teen Girls Self-Defense – Sharon Forks Library. Learn basic techniques for defending yourself and staying safe. Presented by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s office. Registration required.

7:00 pm – 9:00 pm – Forsyth County Senior Services is hosting a concert to benefit high needs clients in the Meals on Wheels program. The Air National Guard “Band of the South” will perform at the Sexton Hall Enrichment Center. Sexton Hall Enrichment Center is located at 2115 Chloe Road, just off of Sharon Road between Peachtree Parkway and Old Atlanta Road. Saturday, April 6

9:00 am – 12:00 pm – Home Depot Kids Workshop – Build a bird feeder!

  • FREE hands-on workshops designed for children ages 5 – 12 offered the 1st Saturday of every month at all The Home Depot stores between 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
  • Workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills, tool safety and instill a sense of pride and accomplishment.
  • All kids get to keep their craft and receive a FREE Kids Workshop Apron, commemorative pin and certificate of achievement.
  • Paint will be provided at the workshop for children to personalize their bird feeder craft!

10:00 am – 11:30 am on the half hour – Michaels Kids Club – Earth Day Celebration – Let your kids explore their creativity while you shop! Only $2 per child reserves 30 minutes for your creative kid. Sessions starting every half hour from 10AM – 11:30AM. See a store associate to join the fun!

10:00 am – 3:00 pm – Thunder River Alpaca Company’s 3rd Annual Alpaca Shearing Day in Cumming, GA. It is free and children are welcome. This is a great event for families.Visit a farm, see their dogs, visit and touch and feed the alpacas and see them being shorn. You can even get a piece of fleece from the alpaca to take home.

11:00 am – Barnes & Noble storytime at The Avenue Forsyth. It’s a Storytime all about poetry. Join us as we read some of our favorite poems. Great for all ages.

11:00 am – 5:00 pm – North Georgia Quarter Midget Association– Cumming Fairgrounds – Quarter Midget Racing. Racing for kids! That is what you will find at the Bill Thomas Raceway located at the Cumming Fairgrounds, home of the North Georgia Quarter Midget Racing Association (NGQMA). Saturdays between March and November, you will find boys and girls, ages 5-16, take to the track, pedal to the metal. Race on over for some wheel to wheel action!  Admission is always free and concessions are available.

11:15 am – Hampton Park Library – Puppet Pizzazz – our favorite puppet show for all ages!

11:15 am – Sharon Forks Library – Stranger Danger –  Learn how to stay safe from strangers. Presented by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Ages 3 and up.

2:30 pm – Hampton Park Library – Edible Science – prepare to be amazed by the science behind the foods we eat! For grades K – 5.

Sunday, April 7
