postroadOur first three day weekend of 2014 is here for Forsyth County Schools. Here’s a roundup of free and cheap things to do for families in and around Forsyth County, GA.

Friday, January 17

11:15 am – 11:45 am – Hampton Park Library Preschool Pals story time for ages 3 – 5. These 30 minute programs are designed to promote language, listening, and pre-reading skills by offering vocabulary development, experiences with a variety of literature, and participation in language-related activities.  Hear stories, sing songs, and develop the skills needed to become a successful reader.

7:00 pm – 9:00 pm – Gerda and the Snow Queen Ballet. Still Pointe Studios presents a charming adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson’s Gerda and the Snow Queen. The whole family will enjoy this winter-wonderland story told through ballet. Join a journey of unconditional love, adventure and restoration, featuring classical compositions by Tchaikovsky, Dvorak, Sibelius and more. Performances are at North Forsyth High School’s auditorium Friday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 18 at 2 and 7 p.m. Tickets are $9 and are available online or at the door for $12.

8:00pm – Sawnee Mountain Music. A fan favorite, the Award winning Frances Mooney & Fontanna Sunset. Showtime 8:00pm, bring your instrument and jam til showtime. Concession available. For more information call 770-887-7635.

Saturday, January 18

10:00 am – Bringing birds to your yard Pike Nurseries Class – Want to learn how to bring birds to your yard? Join us for a free class this Saturday, January 18th at 10am. Whether you’re an avid birder or are just getting started we’ve got tips for you. Located at: 6050 Bethelview Road, Cumming, GA 30040.

10:00 am – 12:00 pm – Michaels KIDS CLUB®” Alien Foam Door Hanger. Welcome Earthlings! Kids, make a door hanger that’s truly out of this world. Join us for our Alien Foam Door Hanger Event. Just $2.00 per 30-minute session – including supplies. Ages 3 and up are welcome to this event. Let your kids explore their creativity while you shop! Only $2 per child reserves 30 minutes for your creative kid. Sessions starting every half hour from 10:00am – 11:30am. See a store associate to join the fun!

11:00 am – 12:00 pm – Uniquely Inspired Canvas for Kids. Paint a colorful ice cream cone! 11:00 Barnes and Noble Story Time at The Collection Forsyth. Join us for Storytime and fun activities featuring the Snatchabook on Saturday, January 18 at 11:00 am.

11:00 am – 4:00 pm – Pet Adoption Event at Petco on Market Place Blvd in Cumming, GA. Adopt a shelter pet (dogs and cats) and save a life from the Humane Society of Forsyth County!

11:15 am – 1:15 pm – Post Road Library Saturday Family Story Time. Start your weekend off right at the Post Road library. We’ll have stories, dancing, and fun! This storytime is for children aged 4-8 but bring the whole family!

11:15 am – 11:45 am – Saturday Scavengers Story Time at Cumming Library. This 30 minute storytime includes books, music, and activities. It is designed for ages 4 – 8, but the whole family is welcome to attend.

Sunday, January 19

2:00 pm – 4:00 pm – Family Chinese New Year’s Celebration at the Post Road Library. Post Road is welcoming 2014, The Year of the Horse, in style. Our Chinese New Year Celebration will kick off with a traditional Lion Dance performed by Atlanta’s Chien Hong School of Kung Fu. This is not to be missed! Then, stay and celebrate with crafts, food and music. This event is for all ages. No registration is required.

ALL WEEKEND

Lakewood 400 Antiques Market – Happy 10th Anniversary! Celebrate their decade of flea market goodness and see what hidden treasures you can find at the market. All weekend. Hours: Friday ~ 9 – 5, Saturday ~ 9 – 6, Sunday ~ 10-5. Admission: $3.00. Friday – Sunday, Ticket is good all weekend, Children under 12 Free. Bring your precious loved ones to visit our wonderful Santa, Sunday 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm. Bring your camera for great pictures!
