Weekend Events for Cumming, GA for April 4 – April 6, 2014

curious georgeApril is here and so are the showers! Hopefully the rest of the weekend will be sunny after today’s storms pass through. Here are some fun things to do in Forsyth County, GA this weekend.

Friday, April 4

11:15 am – Meet Curious George at the Cumming Library! He’s coming to the library!  Enjoy a special storytime honoring our favorite curious monkey and then meet the one, the only, Curious George!  Be sure to bring your camera for a photo with him, too. All ages. No registration required.

11:15 am – Puppetpalooza at the Hampton Park Library. Enjoy their favorite puppet show for all ages! No registration required.

8:00 pm – 10:30 pm – Trinity River Band at Sawnee Mountain Music. Trinity River Band is an Americana, Bluegrass and Acoustic Roots band from Callahan,Florida. There is no better harmony than that of a family band and the group’s harmony blend perfectly serves their musical style. The years spent honing their vocals are evidenced by their recorded and live performances. Please join us for an evening of Bluegrass.

Saturday, April 5

9:00 am – 1:00 pm –  Forsyth County Parks & Recreation Yard Sale – Central Park Recreation Center parking area, 2300 Keith Bridge Road in Cumming. Event organizers expect attendees to be able to browse the yard sale for items such as household goods, furniture, clothing, children’s toys and more. For more, call Parks and Recreation at 770-205-4646.

9:00 am – 12:00 pm – Home Depot Kids Workshop – Build a Birdbath/Birdfeeder from the new FOX film, “Rio 2”, in theaters April 11.

10:00 am – 12:00 pm – Michaels Kids Club – Works of whimsy! Kids, create an original painting on canvas. Join us on Saturday, April 5th, for our Whimsical Works of Art Event. Ages 3 and up are welcome to this event. Let your kids explore their creativity while you shop! Only $2.00 per child reserves 30 minutes for your creative kid. Sessions starting every half hour from 10:00am – 11:30pm. See a store associate to join the fun!

10:00 am – Pike Nurseries Class – Garden experts will host a Growing Great Tomatoes seminar. Participants will learn key planting and care tips as well as the many tomato varieties that are best suited for their garden.

11:00 am – Barnes & Noble story time. It’s bath time, and Pigeon won’t go willingly! Join us April 5 at 11:00 am for a reading of The Pigeon Needs a Bath!, followed by more stories and pigeon activities.

11:15 am – 12:15 pm – Post Road Library Saturday Family Story Time and visit with Curious George. Start your weekend off right at the Post Road library. We’ll have stories, dancing, and fun! This storytime is for children aged 4-8 but bring the whole family!

11:15 am – 11:45 am – Saturday Story Time at Cumming Library. This storytime includes books, music, and activities. It is designed for ages 4 – 8, but the whole family is welcome to attend.

2:00 pm – Pike Nurseries Class – Grow Your Own Salsa Garden class, where gardeners and at-home chefs alike learn not only how to grow all of the ingredients for salsa, but also how to use their harvest in a custom recipe! Whether customers prefer heirloom tomatoes or cherry tomatoes, Pike Nurseries always offers fresh advice for harvesting homegrown tomatoes – ripe for the picking!

Sunday, April 6

2:30 pm – 5:00 pm – Forsyth County Senior Services Spring Concert for all ages at the Sexton Hall Enrichment Center, 2115 Chloe Road in Cumming. The Sounds of Sawnee Concert Band will perform as part of the ongoing concert series hosted by Senior Services. The cost is $5 in advance and $8 at the door. Refreshments are included in the concert admission price.

Friday and Saturday

Multi-Family Yard Sale – Donut Connection parking lot. Come check out our vast array of items. At least 4 families are bringing treasures to sell. Lots of household items, clothing, books, record albums mainly from the 70s, cookbooks, tools, children items, knick knacks and much more. Opening at noon on Friday April 4th. Saturday, April 5th we will be opening at 8am. Will be set up in the gravel parking lot at Donut Connection on Keith’s Bridge Road in Cumming. Hope to see you there!!

Monday, April 7

4:00 pm – 7:00 pm – Coo Coo’s Nest 2nd Annual Open House. Kids eat free! Half priced appetizers from 4 pm – 7 pm. Drink specials, free Abita root beer floats. $20 gift card with $30 purchase of food upstairs (reservations required.) Chris Cauley will be performing from 5 pm – 7 pm. Stay and watch the NCAA championship game. Also taking reservations for Easter Sunday Brunch Buffett from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm on Sunday April 20. 678.456.8932. Crawfish boil on April 26th.
