Summer Reading Programs at Forsyth County Public Library

As we ease into our summer slowdown and schedule, excitement about FCPL’s annual summer reading program is growing.

Children and their families will “Fizz Boom Read” this summer, while tweens and teens will experience “Spark a Reaction.”

Adults will get a chance to be a part of the fun as well, with a special program “Literary Elements” geared toward them.

There will be a Summer Reading Kickoff Carnival the first week in June to celebrate summer and a love of reading. Help kick off our summer reading program with a fun filled day of activities, performers, crafts, science experiments, and more!

The libraries will be featuring special performances throughout the day, and each branch will raffle off one family four pack of tickets to the Tellus Science Museum! Drop in any time and stay as long as you like. All ages welcome. No registration required.

Studies show that reading during school vacation helps maintain and even improve reading skills. The summer reading program is a powerful tool that parents can use to help ensure their children read during the summer months, which will also help prevent an academic summer slip.

Summer reading registration begins on Friday, May 23, 2014 for children, teens, and adults. Patrons may simply visit the library’s website to register or may visit any of the library branches.
Children and teens will be encouraged to set a reading goal for the summer when they register for the programs. They may record their progress throughout the summer online or by using a free reading log they will receive at registration. Children and teens will have until August 2, 2014 to meet their reading goals and to claim their rewards. Each child or teen who meets his or her summer reading goal will receive a free paperback book, donated by the Forsyth County Public Library Friends & Advocates.
Adults who register for summer reading will automatically be entered to win an Amazon gift card! They will also be able to record their reading online all summer long.
