Weekend Events for February 27 – March 1, 2015

seussWell the snow has melted, Elsa has been arrested and we await spring in a few weeks. It has been crazy!

Here are a few fun things to do in Forsyth County this weekend!

Friday, February 27

8:30 am – 8:00 pm – Cumming First United Methodist Church consignment sale. We will allow strollers at all sale times this year! However, if at all possible, please try to use smaller (umbrella) type strollers if you shop Friday morning before 11am. We are FULL with lots of great items!!

9:00 am – 1:00 pm – Creekside MOPS Consignment Sale – Every year MOPS sponsors a Spring and Fall Consignment Sale. This is a wonderful opportunity to shop for gently used (and even some new) children’s and maternity items such as quality clothing, toys, games, nursery equipment, and so much more. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the MOPS and Teen MOPS ministries.

Saturday, February 28

8:00 am – 1:00 pm – Creekside MOPS Consignment Sale – Every year MOPS sponsors a Spring and Fall Consignment Sale. 11:00 am – Barnes & Noble story time at The Collection Forsyth. In celebration of Black History Month, join us on February 28 at 11:00 am for Storytime and activities featuring two notable figures with the titles I am Rosa Parks and I am Jackie Robinson.

Little Mill Middle School Drama Performance of MULAN – Sets for Mulan are coming together, and The Little Mill Drama Society would love for you to reserve your tickets now! Performances are Friday, Feb. 27th @ 7:00 pm & Saturday, Feb. 28th @ 3:00 pm & 7:00 pm at the North Forsyth High School auditorium. With nearly 80 LMMS students involved in this production, you don’t want to miss out!

Forsyth County Public Library – Seuss Spectacular
Did you know that Dr. Seuss would turn 111 on March 2nd?!  Let’s celebrate!  We will have Seuss-themed fun for the whole family — songs, stories, puppet shows, and more!
Registration is not required.
All ages are welcome to attend this family event.

Saturday, February 21

10:00 am – 12:00 pm – Michaels KIDS CLUB: Tissue Paper Frame. Ages 3 and up are welcome to this event. 11:00 am – Barnes & Noble story time at The Collection Forsyth. Click, Clack Peep! story time. From the award-winning creator of Click, Clack, Moo comes an adorable story of a cute little duckling that won’t quiet down!

11:15 am – Post Road Library – Saturday Family Storytime at Post. Start your weekend off right at the Post Road library. We’ll have stories, dancing, and fun! This storytime is for children aged 4-8 but bring the whole family!

2:00 PM or 3:30 pm – Frozen Tea Party at Sharon Forks Library – Come dressed in your Frozen best for this special tea party celebrating all things Frozen! We’ll have themed treats, hot chocolate, crafts, and a visit from two very special princesses! Please check with the library in the event of bad weather.

This program is designed for ages 3 and up. Advance registration is suggested. Please only register for one program so we may accommodate as many families as possible.

Northside Consignment Sale is having its Spring sale. They secured a great location at the corner of GA 400 and Hwy 369 (Browns Bridge Rd) just north of Cumming. Located inside the “Wheels 400” building directly across from Browns Bridge Community Church! The address is 3885 Browns Bridge Rd, Cumming, GA 30041. 10:00 am – 11:00 am – Hampton Park Library – Busy Builders. Let’s build something together! Did you know that playing with LEGO and other building blocks can help develop your child’s cognitive learning and social skills? Every Friday morning we will set out a collection of kid-friendly building blocks for an engaging and educational drop-in playtime. You bring your creativity, we’ll provide the rest! All ages are welcome to attend this family program. Registration is not required, drop-in anytime!

8:30 am – Walk or run but join us for the Surf and Sun 5K and Fun Run to benefit Feed the Hungry Forsyth whose mission is to gather perishable food that would otherwise go to waste and deliver to local food ministries that provide food to the hungry. The race is at West Bank Park, 3400 Buford Dam Road, Cumming, GA.

9:00 am – 12:00 pm – Home Depot Kids Workshop. Learn how to build a heart box.

  • Come learn how to build a heart box in time for Valentine’s Day
  • FREE hands-on workshops; designed for children ages 5 – 12
  • All kid get to keep their craft, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
  • Children must be present at the store to participate in the workshop and receive the kit, apron and pin.
  • Kids Workshop activities are scheduled on a first come/first served basis. Please do not arrive before 9:00 a.m.

3:30 pm – 5:00 pm  – Post Road Library. One World Forsyth – Chinese New Year Celebration. The Year of the Sheep begins in February! Join us for an interactive performance by the Atlanta Chinese Dance Company followed by traditional crafts, fortune cookies and Chinese lucky candy!
