Happy Thanksgiving 2016

thankfulI am thankful for many things this holiday season, including you all – my readers.

Thank you for reading Forsyth for Families. I hope it has helped you to create many family memories that you will cherish in the years to come.

I am taking a break this Thanksgiving weekend to spend time with my family so there won’t be a weekend update.

Community Thanksgiving Dinners in Forsyth County, GA

thanksgiving placemat craftIt is a time of giving thanks and helping others. These wonderful local organizations are offering a community Thanksgiving dinner for families in need or that don’t have a place to go in Cumming, GA.

Cumming First United Methodist Church – 770 Canton Highway (Hwy. 20 West) – their 16th annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner is from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm on Thanksgiving Day at the church’s family life center. For those interested in eating or volunteering, visit the CFUMC website.

Chestatee Elementary SchoolCommunity Thanksgiving Dinner is on Tuesday November 22 from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm. The meal is open to anyone in the community. The teachers bring in food and the school has purchased 20 turkeys for the community. Located at: 6945 Keith Bridge Road, Gainesville, GA 30506.

We are fortunate to have two Christmas tree farms in Forsyth County, GA where you can pick your own tree and cut it down, or select a tree with a rootball to plant after Christmas!

Also both farms provide Trees for Troops so if you are feeling generous, donate towards giving a tree for the troops!

Bottoms Christmas Tree Farm and Kinsey Family Farm are both wonderful family-owned farms that have been around for years.

SANTA UPDATE:  He is VERY busy, but he is making time once again for Bottoms Christmas Tree Farm!!!  He will be on the farm for family photos the following dates this Christmas Season: Saturday, November 26th, 10:00 AM – Noon, Saturday, December 3rd, 10:00 am – Noon.

Their mission is to provide the families of North Georgia and metro Atlanta with the experience of cutting their own Christmas Tree with the hope it will become a family tradition. We are the oldest operating Christmas Tree Farm in Cumming, Georgia. Over the years, we have added improvements to our farm to enhance your visit. Kinsey Family Farm

As the Christmas season approaches, they shift over to hot chocolate and marshmallows along with an exceptional diversity of Christmas trees . . . guaranteed to be the freshest in Atlanta as they are all stored and displayed in water and out of the sun!!! You can cut your own tree down, choose a live tree with a root ball, or pick one of our free standing pre-cut trees out of our barns. We invite you to come roast marshmallows, drink hot chocolate, and listen to holiday music with us at the barn. Once you have warmed your insides sufficiently you can take a wagon ride out to the fields to begin your quest for the perfect Christmas tree.

The 2016 Christmas season will be in operation from Saturday, November 19 (the weekend before Thanksgiving) until Tuesday, December 20th. Due to our desire to celebrate the holidays with our own families we will not be open on Thanksgiving day or Christmas Eve. Check their Facebook page for updates as well.

Christmas Arts and Crafts Festival at Lanier Tech on November 12 & 13, 2016

Christmas Arts & Crafts Festival in Cumming, GAThe Sawnee Association of the Arts Christmas Arts & Crafts Festival at Lanier Tech will be held on November 12th – 9 AM to 6:00 PM and November 13th – 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at The Forsyth Conference Center at Lanier Technical College which is located at 3410 Ronald Reagan Blvd; Cumming, GA 30040; just off GA 400 exit 13 (RT 141) FREE ADMISSION!!!

This will be the 13th year that SAA is hosting this family-oriented community event. The Christmas Arts & Crafts Festival at Lanier Tech is the largest indoor/outdoor arts and crafts festival in Forsyth County, with over 100+ vendors; it has become an established community event with local residents.

Children will have the opportunity to play in two Moonwalks (weather permitting) and help raise funds for the SAFFT organization; Shop for gifts in the Elf Corner, a special shop where only kids can shop! Elves will help them choose gifts for friends and family; gift wrapping included. Parents can capture their children’s special visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus using their own cameras for a small donation. Food trucks, food vendors and kettle corn will be available outside, along with twelve non-profit organizations that SAA is hosting as part of our community outreach program.

This juried Festival will feature original, handcrafted works by professional artisans & craftsmen in the following mediums: painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, pottery, wood working, glass, fiber and food.

9:00 am – 1:00 pm – Electronics Recycling Event – Keep Forsyth County Beautiful (KFCB) invites residents to recycle their unused paint and old electronics during the upcoming paint and electronics recycling event, held every fall and spring. This fall’s recycling event will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cumming Fairgrounds’ parking lot 3 off of Castleberry Road.

9:00 am – 3:00 pm – First Baptist Cumming Fall Bazaar. Unique Christmas and gift items, artwork, antiques. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. $1.00 admission. Bake sale.

9:00 am – 12:00 pm – Home Depot Kids Workshop – Build a Veterans Day Toy Helicopter. Join our hands-on workshop in honor of Veterans Day, and you and your child can build a toy helicopter with turning blades! Once the toy helicopter is built, your child can decorate it with paint & stickers to create a mini-military vehicle.

10:00 am – 12:00 pm – Michaels KIDS CLUB: Make a yarn hot cocoa mug! Ages 3 and up are welcome to this event. See a store associate for details today. $2.00. Let your kids explore their creativity while you shop! Only $2 per child reserves 30 minutes for your creative kid. Sessions starting every half hour from 10:00am – 11:30am. See a store associate to join the fun!

10:00 am – 2:00 pm – Abba House Fall Fest – Abba House will host an entirely free Fall Festival to give back for all of the support that they have received through their 16 years in the North Georgia community. It is a chance for you to enjoy lunch, music, carnival games, snacks, and activities for children and adults all while bringing awareness of the ministry that Abba House does and to their 25,000 square foot 400 North Thrift Store location. It is also a chance to raise funds for the women and children of Abba House. This is our fourth year hosting this event, and we can tell you, it is not your average fall festival. You will not be disappointed! All you have to do to participate is gather up your family and show up for a day of free fun. Abba House’s 400 North Thrift Store is located just over three miles north of the outlet mall on GA-400 and GA-136. We can’t wait to see you all!

11:00 am – Barnes & Noble at The Collection Forsyth story time – Time to cut loose! Have a rockin’ time at our Storytime to the fun of Footloose, rewritten for children by the one and only Kenny Loggins. To add to the fun, the book includes a CD with new recordings by Kenny Loggins.
