The weekend is here and it looks to be a warm and rainy one. Here are some fun events going on in and around Forsyth County!

Saturday, January 21
10:00 am – Lowe’s Build and Grow. Mystery kit! This Saturday, stores will receive one of several classic Build and Grow kits! The project may be a mystery but it’s no surprise that your child will have fun building it at Lowe’s!! RSVP online.
11:00 am – Barnes & Noble Storytime at The Avenue Forsyth. An Olivia story time!
11:15 am – Reading Rangers Storytime at Cumming Library. Plethora of Pets!
Central Park baseball and softball registration is also happening this weekend from 9 am – 2 pm on Saturday and 2-4 pm on Sunday. You can register online or in person at the Rec Center.

American Girl– Meet the Girl of the Year and celebrate with lots of fun events at American Girl. Here is a link to all of the weekend events. She’ll be inspired by Saige, our newest Girl of the Year!

Craft – Your girl can join in the fun during this free event, where she can make a horse collage and hot-air balloon crafts inspired by the ones in Saige stories.

Scavenger Hunt – Learn about Saige, our newest Girl of the Year! Your girl will go on a fun-filled scavenger hunt, collecting fun facts about Saige along the way. Plus, she’ll get a free American Girl poster at the end!

Celebration – Join us to celebrate Saige, our newest Girl of the Year! She loves to paint and ride horses, and uses her imagination to create art and inspire change. Girls will learn about this new contemporary character, make fun crafts, and enjoy a delicious meal. Includes an American Girl book to take home.

Snow Mountain is open at Stone Mountain through February 18, 2013! What a fun way to celebrate winter with your family. Snow Mountain is Atlanta’s official winter wonderland, just minutes from downtown. Here you’ll find a snow-packed mountainside and action-packed excitement. Have a ball on five football fields of frosty joy, including 20 lanes of tubing. Zoom down the 400-foot hill all together in our family-sized tubes, or go it alone as a single rider. From snowman building to snowball shooting, tubing to togetherness, the moments will be frozen in time.

If you are shopping at the North Georgia Premium Outlets, stop at the information desk to get a coupon book. They are on social media and post lots of special offers. Also, one of our favorite toy stores, i Shop Lollipop, is located next to it and has a wonderful jumpy room. You can also play in the toy store! They have lots of toys that are hard to find elsewhere. Open Play Schedule for i Shop Lollipop Toys & Jumping Safari. The cost to jump is $5.00 for ages 2 – 5 and $8.00 for ages 6 and up. You need socks and you get a free bottled water! Unlimited jump time.
January 1 – 31 – Friday, Saturday, Sunday – Babyfest – Tanglewood Farm, Canton, GA – New Year, New Babies! You don’t have to wait until spring to see new little critters make their appearance in the world. At Tanglewood Farm, miniature baby pigs, miniature baby goats, miniature baby donkeys and miniature baby horses herald in the New Year. In the tradition of the South, our two favorite porkers – Scarlett O’Hama and Rhett Gruntler – show off their newest offspring, the real Priscilla the pink pig. Itsy-Biscuit, a miniature version of the famous racehorse Seabiscuit, will be racing around the paddock while baby goats and baby donkeys wander around this Wild West Town, eager for some cuddling. Take a pony ride and see more than 100 miniature farm animals that call Tanglewood their home. Tour: $10 per person (free for infants under one)

Friday, November 9

10:00 am – 6:00 pm – Cumming Steam, Antique Tractor and Gas Engine Exposition – Cumming Fairgrounds. The Cumming Steam, Antique Tractor and Gas Engine Exposition has steadily grown since we started it in 2001. Come and join us for a weekend of fun and step
back in time. We have working exhibits such as a cotton gin, saw mill, shingle mill, baker fan and many others. The Cumming Fairgrounds is one of the finest show grounds in the south. Come take a walk back in time. Vendors and exhibitors get in free and we have campsites available with full hook ups. Admission – $5.00 for ages 13 and up, kids 12 and under free.

6:00 pm – 9:00 pm – Sweet & Sassy Girls Night Out 1960s style fun! $35.00 per girl, call for reservations.

Reaping Nature’s next community recycling event will take place at The Ice at 1345 Atlanta Highway in Cumming, on Sunday, Nov. 11 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Event items being accepted for recycling and reuse:
  • New & gently used coats and blankets (Meals by Grace);
  • Clean & empty laundry detergent bottles, egg cartons, and “Tupperware” like containers, with sealable lids (ex. cream cheese, cottage cheese, sour cream) (Meals by Grace);
  • Household items & clothing (Family Haven);
  • Cellphones (Feed the Hungry Forsyth);
  • New and gently used shoes (ShoeBox Recycling);
  • Electronics (TVs $15 to recycle, secure hard drive shredding provided) (Premier Surplus);
  • Loose change (benefitting Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta).

Parents Palooza Parenting Expo in Atlanta, GA on November 10 and 11, 2012

Parents Palooza Atlanta 2012Back by popular (frazzled, cuisine-challenged, product junkie and also joyful parents) demand, Parents Palooza heads to Cobb Galleria Centre this November 10 and 11, 2012.

Created by a Forsyth County mom and dad, this family event offers two days filled with tips, products, services, resources and information that parents of babies to teens need and want for their families. There is also plenty of onsite fun for the whole family … kids are very welcome. The weekend wraps up with a Sunday afternoon concert from Laughing Pizza.

From parenting workshops and presentations to the parenting expo and family concert from Laughing Pizza, there is something for everyone at this conference. Kids are welcome and there is a fun kids zone and kids mini-conference during the event.
