Forsyth County Senior Services Seeks Holiday Gift Angels

Brighten the day of a local senior citizen this holiday season

Forsyth County Senior Services invites everyone to be a holiday angel to a local senior citizen by participating in the 2017 Holiday Gift Angels Program.

“The Holiday Gift Angels Program is a joy for Forsyth County Senior Services to host every year,” said Senior Services Director Ruthie Brew. “A gift from a stranger – however big or small – shows our seniors that they are thought of during the holiday season.”

Being a holiday angel is easy to do. Just follow these simple steps:

1.  Pick up a gift request tag at any of the three Forsyth County Senior Services locations (gift tags will be available beginning Thursday, November 2):

  • Center at Charles Place, 595 Dahlonega Street, Open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Sexton Hall Enrichment Center, 2115 Chloe Road, Open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Hearthstone Lodge Community Center, 7305 Lanier Drive, Open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

2.  Acquire a gift. Each gift request tag lists the name of a local senior citizen along with a gift idea for him/her.

3.  Bring the unwrapped gift – in a gift bag with the gift request tag attached – to any of the three Forsyth County Senior Services locations listed above weekdays by November 27. For additional information, call Forsyth County Senior Services at (770) 781-2178.

Fire Department Annual Toy Collection – Help Brighten the Holidays for Local Children in Need

Be a part of the Forsyth County Fire Department’s 15th annual Aerial’s House toy collection! New, unwrapped toys for local children in need – newborn through 18 years old – may be dropped off from November 13 through December 15 at any Forsyth County fire station, Fire Department Headquarters (3520 Settingdown Road), or any of the county’s four library branches. To receive information regarding the distribution of toys collected through Aerial’s House, call The Place of Forsyth County at (770) 887-1098.

Deliver Meals to Seniors Through Meals on Wheels Program in Forsyth County, GA

The Meals on Wheels program delivers not only a nutritious meal but also a friendly visit to homebound seniors. Providing this important program wouldn’t be possible without the dedicated volunteers who pack and deliver the meals. If you are looking for a way to truly make a difference in the community and brighten the lives of others, please consider becoming a Meals on Wheels volunteer. You can learn more by calling Forsyth County Senior Services at (770) 781-2178.

Looking for other ways to volunteer? Check out Volunteer Match for Forsyth County, GA or contact a local nonprofit directly to see how you can help.

Angels Over Forsyth

Sponsor a child who is in foster care this Christmas.  This effort is coordinated by Angels Over Forsyth, a community-driven, volunteer program which ensures these children have the best Christmas possible.  As the holiday season nears, Angels Over Forsyth is seeking assistance in making Christmas and the Holiday season brighter for foster children and families in need living in our community. We are in need of persons who can sponsor a child in need. We are asking that sponsors spend approximately $150.00 per child. Find out more information on the Angels Over Forsyth website.
