Pick Your Own Sunflowers in Forsyth County, GA

the anderson's sunflower farm in cumming, gaOne of our favorite traditions is picking sunflowers at The Anderson Family sunflower farm in South Forsyth at Highway 9 and Shiloh Road (near Majors Road).

You can pick your own or buy from the stand. It also makes a great background for family photos. I drove by the farm for years when going to work and I am really glad I finally stopped! Now it is a tradition for the girls and I to visit the sunflowers, take pictures and pick their favorites!

The Andersons report that they will open on July 5th and remain open from 7am – 7pm, 7 days a week while the sunflowers are in bloom. They look forward to seeing you on the farm! Also, go follow them on Instagram at AndersonSunflowers.

“The sunflowers are growing! We expect to officially open the farm to the public on July 5th. There will be a $10 entry fee per car. We will also sell the flowers $12 per dozen and $8 per half dozen. Professional photographers are welcome! We do charge $35 per full session and $25 per mini session. You do not have to schedule with us ahead of time, just bring your clients and snap as many photos as you’d like! We will be open 7am-7pm, 7 days a week while they are in bloom. Please keep in mind that the season is short and will probably only last 4-6 weeks, depending on the weather. Keep checking back on our page for updates and photos! We look forward to seeing you at the sunflower farm soon!!” The Anderson’s Sunflowers is on Facebook. Please check their FB page for updates.

The sunflower farm is located at 3360 Shiloh Road, Cumming, GA 30040. They are open 7am to 7pm, 7 days a week while they are in bloom!

New Playground in Forsyth County’s Central Park Due in September 2014

CentralParkSignIf you have visited Central Park in Forsyth County, GA recently, you have seen that the playground is gone and there is a lot of dirt everywhere.

Central Park is getting a new playground! I am so happy as it’s our favorite playground and it was literally falling apart. Thanks also to the Forsyth Herald for covering the playground’s condition in 2013.

The new playground will be made of metal and plastic instead of wood, so hopefully it will last longer and be a safer alternative for our kids.

From Forsyth County:

“A new playground is coming to Central Park, and is being funded by the Parks, Recreation and Green Space Bond.

The new playground at Central Park will be metal and plastic compared to the old playground which was a wood structure. There will be an area for ages two to five and an area for ages five to twelve. The new playground will feature slides, climbers, swings and more.

Currently, required improvements to the site including improving drainage are being done by Martin Contracting. Once that work is completed, the playground will be installed. We are hopeful to have the installation complete in September.

At their May 15, 2014 meeting, the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners awarded the RFP for the playground equipment at Central Park to PlayCore Wisconsin, Inc. d/b/a GameTime in an amount not to exceed $314,900.”
