Central Park baseball and softball registration is also happening this weekend from 9 am – 2 pm on Saturday and 2-4 pm on Sunday. You can register online or in person at the Rec Center.

Weekend Events for Cumming, GA for July 22 – 24, 2011

Sunflowers are in bloom – one of our favorite experiences was picking sunflowers at a local farm in South Forsyth at Highway 9 and Shiloh Road (near Majors Road). You can pick your own or buy from the stand.

10:00 am – Lowe’s Build and Grow. Build a binocular and go bird watching!

11:00 am – Barnes & Noble story time – Calling all little dragon slayers to this week’s adventure storytime about dragons. Great for kids eight and under.

Weekend Events in Cumming, GA for 4/22 – 4/24/2011

Hopefully the rain will come through by Friday and bring us a weekend of sunshine for Easter weekend. There are a few regular and holiday events this weekend. Add in Earth Day and there is much to celebrate!

Friday 4/22
5:00 pm – 7:00 pm – Easter Egg Hunt at Brecht Stables. Find the secret egg and win a Bryer Horse!
8:30 pm – Flashlight Egg Hunt at First Baptist Cumming. Event for K-5 aged children. Bring a basket and flashlight.
All Day – Earth Day Celebration – Keep Forsyth Beautiful – Coal Mountain Recycling Center
  • Tours of the Convenience Center will be taking place every hour on the hour from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Two pre-school dragonfly classes will entertain visitors at the Coal Mountain Park Community Building. The classes will take place at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.
  • “The Gross Graffiti Cover-Up” book reading by Denise Carleton with Reaping Nature Productions will start at 11:30 a.m. at the Coal Mountain Park Community Building. An “Enviroscape” class on point source and non-point source water pollution will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the Coal Mountain Park Pavilion.
  • An adult rain barrel class scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Coal Mountain Park Community Building will instruct attendees how to make their own rain barrel, and allow those in attendance to take home a completed rain barrel. The cost for the event is $40. Those interested in attending this class must pre-register.

This seminar will teach you the ABC’s of color container gardens.  Learn how to select and plant containers with Thrillers, Spillers, and Fillers.  Attendees will receive coupon to use that day.
10:00 am – Lowes Build and Grow – Window Birdhouse – Spring is here! This unique birdhouse sticks to your window so you can actually see the nest! 4/16 Like horses? Check out the show at S&S Equestrian Stables. They are hosting a show for the Cherokee Chargers Horse 4-H Club this Saturday, April 16, to benefit 4-H’ers attending the State 4-H Show in Perry this June. It’s an Open Schooling Horse Show with Hunter/Jumper classes & Timed Events. Medals awarded 1st – 6th place! Champion & Reserve division awards. Door prizes all day long.

4/16 Don’t forget. Four Square Day is this Saturday, April 16th. Mia’s will be giving away $5.00 gift certificates to the first 15 people who check in on Four Square.
4/16 & 4/17 –  Bear on the Square Mountain Festival – Dahlonega – If you’re a fan of old-time, bluegrass and gospel music from the Southern Appalachian region, the 15th annual Bear on the Square Mountain Festival in Dahlonega, Ga., will be the place to be on Saturday and Sunday, April 16-17.

It has been a soggy week and we hope that warmer and sunnier weather will prevail for our weekend in Forsyth County, GA! Here is a roundup of some family friendly events this weekend. Friday 4/1/11

Go camping! The 2011 camping season officially began in Forsyth County on March 28 when Shady Grove Campground opened its 110 campsites for campers. The campground will remain open until November 6.

Pick up a bag of free chips at Kroger from 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm on 4/1/11! Stop in and grab a bag of select chips for free!

Saturday 4/2/11

9:00 am – 12:00 pm – Home Depot – build a bright colored planter/basket for Easter!

10:00 am – 2:00 pm – Fowler Park Grand Opening Event – lots of family fun and events to celebrate the opening of Forsyth County, GA’s newest park.

The park is similar to Central Park and includes a skate park, designed by Wally Hollyday, the county’s first. The park will also add more space for athletics. Among them: a track; four baseball fields; six courts each for basketball and tennis; and six soccer/lacrosse fields. Some other features include a paved walking trail that winds through the woods, the county’s largest pavilion, access to the Big Creek Greenway and a 5-acre passive area ideal for large events.

Creekside MOPS are having their consignment sale this weekend as well! Friday and Saturday from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm.

My church, CFUMC – Cumming First United Methodist Church, is having their super consignment sale next weekend. Be sure to mark your calendar and go through the kids’ closets and make a list of things that you need!
