I will be updating this page as camp information is released, so check back often. Please also comment and share any other camps you may know about!

March and April are good planning months as deadlines are in April and early May for summer camp sign-ups. Forsyth County, the Forsyth County YMCA and the City of Cumming offer camps as well as local churches, organizations and the Girl Scouts.

Summer Camps

The Forsyth County YMCA offers a variety of summer programs. Forsyth County and the City of Cumming offer camps and classes all summer long. Local high schools are offering camps through the City and County. Forsyth Central High School is offering camps through the City of Cumming – check out the sports camp listings on this page. A few other area high schools are offering camps through Forsyth County Parks and Recreation.

Some local horse stables like Brecht Stables (therapeutic and western riding camps) and Flowered Rock Horse Farm offer camps.

They will be taught by family members and church friends of Bottoms Christmas Tree Farm. The only thing we ask is children under 6 to please be accompanied by an adult. The lesson for the week are as followed: Sunday- Jesus the Creator Monday – Jesus’ Birth Tuesday- Jesus’ Life Wednesday- Jesus’ Death We will have Bible Study, crafts, games, food and music each night for every age group. Imagine That and Future Tech are another example of unique camps featuring science, technology, robotics and art.

Camp Invention is a STEM-focused program from the Inventors Hall of Fame for students who are rising 1st-6th graders.  There are several sites (schools) that offer the camp.  If you go to the Camp Invention website and enter your zip code it will show you locations that will offer the Camp and the dates of the camp at that location.

Sawnee Mountain Preserve offers nature and adventure camps for kids throughout the summer.

Help us celebrate Native American Heritage Month with a special visit from acclaimed storyteller, Barry Stewart Mann.  Through the voices of three historical figures — Sequoyah, inventor of the Cherokee syllabary; Nancy Ward, Beloved Woman; and Dragging Canoe, brave warrior — Barry will Cherokee folklore, customs, and history. Highlights include the creation myth cycle and the tale of the Healing Lake, the challenges posed by European settlement, and details of Cherokee Stickball, the Seven Clans, and the Green Corn ceremony. Pumpkin Patches in Forsyth County, GA 2014

Fall pumpkin season is here! There are a few places to pick a pumpkin in and around Forsyth County, GA.

For years we have been going to Kinsey Family Farm in Forsyth County, GA to pick out our annual pumpkin.

The farm features hayrides, barn animals and catfish to feed in the pond among other fun things. There are picnic tables if you would like to bring a picnic lunch. Sample their caramel apples or boiled peanuts. They also have a 25,000 square foot nursery and during the holidays you can pick out a Christmas tree and enjoy hot chocolate and marshmallows.

The farm is open every day in October and features a wide variety of pumpkins as well as apples, gourds, corn stalks, indian corn, straw bales, and much more!

Check out their fall harvest shop and pick up some apples, salsa, jam, honey, preserves and much more!

We also had our daughter’s birthday party there in the picnic area and it was a wonderful time. We took a hayride, fed the catfish and then picked out small pumpkins and decorated them.

Other Pumpkin Patches in Forsyth County, GA

The Pumpkin Patch at Cumming First United Methodist Church is located at 770 Canton Highway, Cumming, GA. Opening September 27 at noon (they arrive that day), the pumpkin patch will be open from 9 a.m. to dark Saturdays, 11 a.m. to dark Sundays and 1 p.m. to dark Monday-Fridays throughout the month of October. Check their website and Facebook page for updates.

Pick up your pumpkins and gourds for Fall decorating.  Proceeds go to support children’s and youth ministries at Cumming First UMC and within the local community.

CFUMC will have story times in the pumpkin patch beginning October on Tuesdays – Thursdays. Schools, clubs and groups are welcome – please call 770-887-2900 x 220 to make reservations.

The Burt’s Farm hay ride has become just as much of a fall tradition as our pumpkins, so of course we will have our fleet of tractors and wagons ready for everyone this fall. Please note the business hours for our pumpkin patch and country store are different.If you haven’t taken’t a hay ride at Burt’s Farm, this is a great year to try it! Our hay ride travels two miles around the pumpkin patch and through the woods. The wagons are filled with wheat straw and are pulled by a big farm tractor.  You will see our two most famous pumpkins Autumn and Gordy along the way and also go through a covered bridge filled with singing pumpkins. New for this year we have planted over 8,000 zinnia flowers! At the end of the ride you will get a glimpse of Amicalola Falls, the highest waterfall east of the Mississippi River. It’s a beautiful sight.The cost of the hayride is $4.00 for children 1 to 12 years old and $5.00 for adults (there is no charge for children less than a year old). We hope you’ll join us for a hay ride this fall!

Events Near Forsyth County, GA

Atlanta Dragon Boat Festival – Saturday, September 13 at the Lake Lanier Olympic Venue in Gainesville, GA. Activities commence with races beginning at 7 am and the colorful Opening Ceremonies at noon. The race has grown from a handful of teams and a few spectators to an event which is one of the hallmark diversity events in the metro Atlanta area. The event now boasts a field of more than 50 teams with over 5,000 spectators and a wide variety of Chinese artisans either performing or displaying their wares.

It’s hard to think about summer camps already, but it is just a few months away!

Here is this year’s roundup of 2014 kids summer day camps and vacation bible schools in the areas of Cumming GA and Forsyth County, GA.

I will be updating this page as camp information is released, so check back often. Please also comment and share any other camps you may know about!

March and April are good planning months as deadlines are in April and early May for summer camp sign-ups. Forsyth County, the Forsyth County YMCA and the City of Cumming offer camps as well as local churches, organizations and the Girl Scouts.

Please check directly with these organizations as camp information can change.

Summer Camps

The Forsyth County YMCA offers a variety of summer programs. Forsyth County and the City of Cumming offer camps and classes all summer long. Local high schools are offering camps through the City and County. Forsyth Central High School is offering camps through the City of Cumming – check out the sports camp listings on this page. A few other area high schools are offering camps through Forsyth County Parks and Recreation.

There are also specialty camps like Swim Atlanta. Some local horse stables like Brecht Stables (therapeutic and western riding camps) and Flowered Rock Horse Farm offer camps. Music Authority is even hosting a Rock Camp!

Brecht Stables & Dustin’s Place – Camp camps camps! We are located in north Cumming. We have boarding, western lessons, therapeutic lessons for kids with special needs, attend Special Olympics and other horse shows. Instructor/owner has a child with special needs herself!

The Warehouse Kid’s Camp 2014 – there are two sessions June 2 – 6 and June 9 – 13. Located at 5095 Post Road, Cumming, GA 30040.

Imagine That and Future Tech are another example of unique camps featuring science, technology, robotics and art.

Camp Invention is a FABULOUS STEM-focused program from the Inventors Hall of Fame for students who are rising 1st-6th graders.  There are several sites (schools) that offer the camp.  If you go to the Camp Invention website and enter your zip code it will show you locations that will offer the Camp and the dates of the camp at that location.

Sawnee Mountain Preserve offers nature and adventure camps for kids throughout the summer.

Cane Creek Farm Camp – You can now sign up online for your kids aged 8 – 12 to attend Summer Farm Camp, which will be held at the farm from June 23rd – 27th. Farm Camp hours are 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, with extended hours available for an additional fee. The cost is $275.00 per child. A deposit of $150.00 is due by June 1 with the balance due on June 10. Children should bring a healthy lunch each day.

They will prepare food from the farm produce for snacks. Cane Creek Farm is a wonderful place for children to “unplug,” experience nature, and learn where food really comes from. The week-long Farm Camp gives children the opportunity to experience life on a sustainable farm by participating in activities such as feeding chickens and gathering eggs, making compost, learning about pollinators and other beneficial insects, planting seeds, harvesting fruits and vegetables, and preparing fresh-picked produce for tasty snacks. In addition, campers will gain a sense of place by exploring creeks, fields, and forests while becoming familiar with the plants and animals that live in our area of Georgia. And of course, they will have plenty of room to run and have fun being children!

A friend recommended Camp Kerusso as her kids went there last summer (1st – 5th grade). It is located off Pilgrim Mill Road at Camp Lanier on FAA Road. Camp Kerusso dates are the weeks of June 2nd, 23rd and 30th, and July 21st and 28th!  It is from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. Some sessions are sold out.

9:00 am – 12:00 pm – Rivers Alive Cleanup – Mary Alice Park, Cumming, GA. Keep Forsyth County Beautiful (KFCB) is seeking volunteers to help clean local waterways. The 2013 Rivers Alive Cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, November 2, at 9 a.m. and KFCB encourages families, scout troops and organizations to volunteer for the annual waterway cleanup event. Volunteer teams can register for the event by calling KFCB at 770.205.4573 or by sending an email to kfcb @ forsythco.com. The registration deadline is Tuesday, October 30. Volunteers will meet at Mary Alice Park (1820 Mary Alice Park Road in Cumming) at 9 a.m. on November 3 to gather supplies. Pick a Pumpkin in Forsyth County, GA in 2013

Fall pumpkin season is here! For years we have been going to Kinsey Family Farm in Forsyth County, GA to pick out our annual pumpkin.

The farm features hayrides, barn animals and catfish to feed in the pond among other fun things. There are picnic tables if you would like to bring a picnic lunch. Sample their caramel apples or boiled peanuts. They also have a 25,000 square foot nursery and during the holidays you can pick out a Christmas tree and enjoy hot chocolate and marshmallows.

The farm is open every day in October and features a wide variety of pumpkins as well as apples, gourds, corn stalks, indian corn, straw bales, and much more!

Check out their fall harvest shop and pick up some apples, salsa, jam, honey, preserves and much more!

Hayrides, fish feeding, pumpkins and fall harvest crops. There is also a brand new animal pavilion so you can feed the farm animals! Hayrides during the week happen at the top of the hour – there are field trips in the morning as well. Check their fall activity list for more information.

We also had our daughter’s birthday party there in the picnic area and it was a wonderful time. We took a hayride, fed the catfish and then picked out small pumpkins and decorated them.

Other Pumpkin Patches in Forsyth County, GA

The Pumpkin Patch at Cumming First United Methodist Church is now open at 770 Canton Highway, Cumming, GA. The pumpkin patch will be open will be open from 9 a.m. to dark Saturdays, 11 a.m. to dark Sundays and 1 p.m. to dark Monday-Fridays throughout the month of October.

Pick up your pumpkins and gourds for Fall decorating.  Proceeds go to support children’s and youth ministries at Cumming First UMC and within the local community.

CFUMC will have story time in the pumpkin patch beginning October 8th on Tuesdays – Thursdays. Schools, clubs and groups are welcome – please call 770-887-2900 x 220 to make reservations.

Mark your calendars for October 26, 2013 for “The Great Pumpkin – Carving A Night of Fun” from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm. The event, which costs $10 per family, will include a hot dog supper, s’mores and popcorn. There also will be a “punkin chunkin” contest, jack-o-lantern carving, hayrides and a viewing of “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” on an inflatable, outdoor screen.

Pumpkin Palooza at Warbington Farms! Go for a hayride, have fun in the Farm park, visit the petting zoo, pick the pumpkin for the front porch. We will also have vendors every weekend from now until the 27th of October. Such as Origami Owl, Paparazzi jewelry, Handmade children’s items, wreaths by “Hang this wreath” Monogram shirts, much more. Hope to see you there!
