Thursday, October 24

7:00 pm – Macbeth at Forsyth Central High School. Acclaimed as William Shakespeare’s greatest tragedy, the action-packed show is full of intricate sword combat, and lots of tricks and special effects.  Macbeth runs Thursday October 24th and Thursday, October 31 at 7 p.m., and Friday October 25th at 6:30 p.m. Advanced tickets are now on sale for $10/$5 for students and can be purchased online or at the door the night of each performance.  Performances are at the Central High School Performing Arts Center, 520 Tribble Gap Road, Cumming, GA  30040. Recommended for older audiences.

Friday, October 25

10:30 am – Grand opening of Pollo Tropical at 1510 Marketplace Blvd in Cumming, GA!  The Cumming community will celebrate the newest Pollo Tropical opening with a 12-Hour Beach Party – turning thoughts of falling leaves into frolicking palm fronds, island music, beach games, and of course delicious food from the tropics!  One lucky Grand Opening Beach Party attendee will even win Free Pollo Tropical for a Year!* Participants are being urged to arrive as early as 8:00 a.m. to be among the first 100 guests in line for the restaurant’s 10:30 a.m. opening.  Participants must be present to win, and the drawing and winner announcement take place at 11:00 a.m. See website for contest details.

11:00 am – 3:00 pm – Farmers Market at Vickery Village - Dress up your child, dog or yourself this Friday for trick or treating. Raffle tickets will be given away for gift certificates and gifts from vendors. Collect tickets at each vendor you visit and be entered to win in a special drawing. Drawing at 3PM. Prize can be picked up at OVR Coffee Cafe if not present. Of course there will be treats for kids at the vendors’ booths.

6:00 pm – 7:30 pm – Trunk or Treat at Freedom Tabernacle - Our seventh annual “trunk-or-treat” event is coming up on Sunday, October 27, 2013, from 6:00 until 7:30pm, and is free to the community and is tons of fun! We will have music, hot dogs and marshmallow roasting, activities for the kids, hayrides and fun for the entire family! No scary costumes. APPLE ORCHARDS / CORN MAZES / FARMS IN NORTH GEORGIA

It is the start of apple season and the orchards are opening!  Here is a directory of apple orchards and festivals in North Georgia. There are also corn mazes opening from Buford to Uncle Shuck’s to the North Georgia corn maze! Cagle’s Family FarmWarbington Farms and Kinsey Family Farm are also a fun-filled place to visit – check their websites for opening dates.

Hillcrest Orchards apple pickin’ jubilee runs every weekend through October. This is the only time that you can pick your own apples at this orchard. Pick your fun at the annual “Apple Pickin’ Jubilee” where you can pick your own apples, milk a cow, watch live pig races, walk a nature trail, visit the petting farm ($3.00 per person), take a wagon ride through the orchard, visit the Moonshine Museum and watch live bands and cloggers on the Hillcrest Stage. Hillcrest Orchards is open daily: 9:00am – 6:00pm (Sept. – Oct.) 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (Nov.) Hillcrest Orchards Fall 2013 Apple Picking Season

Visit Hillcrest Orchards farm market this Labor Day weekend for fresh picked apples including Honey Crisp, Ginger Gold, Gala, Jonagold and Fuji. The bakers are cooking up hot apple pies, cider doughnuts and apple fritters hot out of the fryer. Hop on the wagon for a relaxing ride through the orchard. Visit the petting farm with a new crop of baby farm animals waiting to be hugged and petted.

Admission is free; we have concessions and plenty of excitement for the whole family. Quarter Midget Racing is a family oriented sport for children ages 5 to 16. Children race in Quarter Midget cars that are a scaled-down (approximately 1/4 scale) version of an actual midget-racecar on oval tracks that are approximately 1/20th of a mile.

Friday, October 19

3:00 pm – 10:00 pm – Cumming Greek Festival- Saints Raphael Nicholas Irene Greek Orthodox Church, 3074 Bethelview Road, Cumming, GA 30040. Each year in October, an entertaining Greek village appears on the 15 acre property of Sts. Raphael, Nicholas and Irene off Bethelview Road in South Forsyth County. The scent and sounds of authentic Greek food and music will fill the air, creating a festive atmosphere. The event offers visitors a unique opportunity to share in the rich history of the Greek culture and it’s beautiful traditions. Period costumed Hellenic Dancers will perform various traditional Greek dances throughout the day and night of the two day event. Curious shops with art, jewelry, and other Aegean items will compliment the culinary offerings and entertainment. Traditional village cuisine will be served at the Greek restaurant, or Taverna. Wonderful Souvlaki (soov-ly-kee), Pastitsio (past-eet-sio), Gyros (ye-rrr-ohs) and other authentic food is also on the full menu. At another shop in the village, delicious, better than donuts, Loukoumades (loo-koo-mah-dez) will be cooked in front of you, then hand dipped in honey. Festival pastries, including Baklava (honey, clarified butter, puffed pastry layers) and much more will be explained and available in one of the many outdoor shops. A very fun kids play area will also be in the park-like setting plus traditional Greek coffee and liqueurs may be found at the Kafenion (cafe-neon).

Dahlonega Gold Rush Days- Gold Rush Days are held the third weekend in October (the 20th and 21st for 2012), when thousands come to see fall colors peaking and celebrate Dahlonega’s 1828 discovery of gold. Over 300 art and craft exhibitors gather around the Public Square and Historic District in support of this annual event, and it is estimated that a crowd of over 200,000 visit over the weekend to join in the fun and excitement! It has been voted one of the Top 20 Events in the southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society. Included in the two day event are a parade, children’s activities, a fashion show, gold panning contest, wheelbarrow race, King and Queen Coronation, hog calling, buck dancing contest, gospel singing and other live entertainment, wrist wrestling, and last but not least – some delicious food!
