8:00 am – 1:00 pm – Lake Lanier Shore Sweep – Keep Forsyth County Beautiful – Shoresweep / Rivers Alive, Bald Ridge Marina @ 8 a.m. Help clean up the lake with this fun event. This year’s 12 participating locations are Lanier Islands, Clarks Bridge, Longwood, Don Carter, Gwinnett and War Hill parks; Aqualand, Bald Ridge, Gainesville and Port Royale marinas; and Balus Creek and Big Creek boat ramps. Volunteers who turn in at least one full bag of trash get a T-shirt. Advance registration isn’t required but helps the association plan shoreline coverage.

Hillcrest Orchards Fall 2016 Apple Picking Season

hillcrestVisit Hillcrest Orchards farm market this weekend for fresh picked apples!

The bakers are cooking up hot apple pies, cider doughnuts and apple fritters hot out of the fryer. Hop on the wagon for a relaxing ride through the orchard. Visit the petting farm with a new crop of baby farm animals waiting to be hugged and petted.

Hillcrest Orchards also debuts their apple pickin’ jubilee on September 10, 2016 and it runs every weekend through October 30. This is the only time that you can pick your own apples at this orchard. Pick your fun at the annual “Apple Pickin’ Jubilee” where you can pick your own apples, milk a cow, watch live pig swimming races, walk a nature trail, visit the petting farm, take a wagon ride through the orchard and watch live bands and cloggers on the Hillcrest Stage.

Visit the playground, fly on a zip line and ride a giant slide down the mountain. There is a new kids play area for extra fun. You can even get your picture made on one of their live steers. Jump for Joy in the Giant Jumping Pillow! Get Lost in the New Corny Kids’ Maze!

Visit the bakery and ice cream parlor for homemade fried apple pies, apple cider doughnuts, apple fritters, homemade ice cream and fudge. Wash it all down with some fresh cold apple cider. They will have the grill fired up outside in the festival area for hamburgers, hotdogs and barbecue along with Billy Bob’s famous boiled peanuts, turkey legs and roasted corn.

Hillcrest Orchards is open daily: 9:00am – 6:00pm (Sept. – Oct.) 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (Nov.) Admission is $10.00 per person. Click here for directions and more information. Pumpkin Patches in and around Forsyth County, GA for 2016

pumpkin patches in forsyth county gaBelieve it or not, Fall 2016 pumpkin season is here! Here are a few neat places to pick a pumpkin in and around Forsyth County, GA.

For years we have been going to Kinsey Family Farm in Forsyth County, GA to pick out our annual pumpkin.

The farm features hayrides, barn animals and catfish to feed in the pond among other fun things. There are picnic tables if you would like to bring a picnic lunch. Sample their caramel apples or boiled peanuts (available after 10/1.) They also have a 25,000 square foot nursery and during the holidays you can pick out a Christmas tree and enjoy hot chocolate and marshmallows.

The farm is open every day in October and features a wide variety of pumpkins as well as apples, gourds, corn stalks, indian corn, straw bales, and much more!

Check out their fall harvest shop and pick up some apples, salsa, jam, honey, breads, preserves and much more!

Hayrides, fish feeding, pumpkins and fall harvest crops. There is also a brand new animal pavilion so you can feed the farm animals! Hayrides during the week happen at the top of the hour – there are field trips in the morning from 10 – 12 as well. Check their fall activity list for more information. Fish feeding now occurs Monday – Fridays only as the fish fill up quickly.

We also had our daughter’s birthday party there in the picnic area and it was a wonderful time. We took a hayride, fed the catfish and then picked out small pumpkins and decorated them.

Other Pumpkin Patches in Forsyth County, GA

The Pumpkin Patch at Cumming First United Methodist Church is located at 770 Canton Highway, Cumming, GA. Opening in late September (TBA), the pumpkin patch will be open from 9 a.m. to dark Saturdays, 11 a.m. to dark Sundays and 1 p.m. to dark Monday-Fridays throughout the month of October. Check their website and Facebook page for updates.

Pick up your pumpkins and gourds for Fall decorating.  Proceeds go to support children’s and youth ministries at Cumming First UMC and within the local community.

Gold Rush Days in downtown Dahlonega gives you the opportunity to pan for gold, taste food Southern food and hear music from bluegrass, country, gospel and contemporary musicians. The 61st annual event will be from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 17 and 18 located at 13 S. 8:00 am – 1:00 pm – Lake Lanier Shore Sweep. This year’s 12 participating locations are Lanier Islands, Clarks Bridge, Longwood, Don Carter, Gwinnett and War Hill parks; Aqualand, Bald Ridge, Gainesville and Port Royale marinas; and Balus Creek and Big Creek boat ramps. Volunteers who turn in at least one full bag of trash get a T-shirt. Advance registration isn’t required but helps the association plan shoreline coverage. Those interested in participating should email lakeinfo@lakelanier.org.

9:00 am – 1:00 pm – A FREE Kids Fishing Event, takes place on Saturday, September 26 from 9 am to 1 pm at The Lower Pool Park, Below Buford Dam. All Kids Age 15 & Under – must be accompanied by an adult. Fly tying, fishing demonstrations and volunteers are available to help with baiting hooks and removing fish. The Buford Trout Hatchery will stock over 2,500 Rainbow Trout at the Dam on the morning of the event! A limited number of fishing poles will be available as loaner poles. 

Hot Dogs, Drinks, and Snacks will be provided at No Charge! LIFE JACKETS ARE RECOMMENDED. BAIT WILL BE PROVIDED. NO FISHING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with Lakeside Pharmacy, is participating in the National Take Back Initiative for the collection of unused, expired, or unwanted prescription drugs. This event is being held at Lakeside Pharmacy (1505 Northside Forsyth Dr.) at Northside Forsyth Hospital, on September 26th between 9:00 am-1:00 pm. This initiative is an effort to help reduce the amount of controlled substances in our community.

Pumpkin Patches in and around Forsyth County, GA for 2015

pumpkin patches in forsyth county, gaBelieve it or not, Fall 2015 pumpkin season is here! Here are a few neat places to pick a pumpkin in and around Forsyth County, GA.

For years we have been going to Kinsey Family Farm in Forsyth County, GA to pick out our annual pumpkin.

The farm features hayrides, barn animals and catfish to feed in the pond among other fun things. There are picnic tables if you would like to bring a picnic lunch. Sample their caramel apples or boiled peanuts (available after 10/1.) They also have a 25,000 square foot nursery and during the holidays you can pick out a Christmas tree and enjoy hot chocolate and marshmallows.

The farm is open every day in October and features a wide variety of pumpkins as well as apples, gourds, corn stalks, indian corn, straw bales, and much more!

Check out their fall harvest shop and pick up some apples, salsa, jam, honey, breads, preserves and much more!

Hayrides, fish feeding, pumpkins and fall harvest crops. There is also a brand new animal pavilion so you can feed the farm animals! Hayrides during the week happen at the top of the hour – there are field trips in the morning from 10 – 12 as well. Check their fall activity list for more information. Fish feeding now occurs Monday – Fridays only as the fish fill up quickly.

We also had our daughter’s birthday party there in the picnic area and it was a wonderful time. We took a hayride, fed the catfish and then picked out small pumpkins and decorated them.

Other Pumpkin Patches in Forsyth County, GA

The Pumpkin Patch at Cumming First United Methodist Church is located at 770 Canton Highway, Cumming, GA. Opening in late September (TBA), the pumpkin patch will be open from 9 a.m. to dark Saturdays, 11 a.m. to dark Sundays and 1 p.m. to dark Monday-Fridays throughout the month of October. Pick up your pumpkins and gourds for Fall decorating.  Proceeds go to support children’s and youth ministries at Cumming First UMC and within the local community.

Atlanta Dragon Boat Festival – Saturday, September 12, 2015 at the Lake Lanier Olympic Venue in Gainesville, GA. Activities commence with races beginning at 7 am and the colorful Opening Ceremonies at noon. The race has grown from a handful of teams and a few spectators to an event which is one of the hallmark diversity events in the metro Atlanta area. The event now boasts a field of more than 50 teams with over 5,000 spectators and a wide variety of Chinese artisans either performing or displaying their wares.
