Events Near Forsyth County, GA

Atlanta Dragon Boat Festival – Saturday, September 13 at the Lake Lanier Olympic Venue in Gainesville, GA. Activities commence with races beginning at 7 am and the colorful Opening Ceremonies at noon. The race has grown from a handful of teams and a few spectators to an event which is one of the hallmark diversity events in the metro Atlanta area. The event now boasts a field of more than 50 teams with over 5,000 spectators and a wide variety of Chinese artisans either performing or displaying their wares.

Uncle Shuck’s Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze Opens September 13, 2014

CornMaze2014Fall is coming and pumpkin patches and corn mazes are abound! Uncle Shuck’s pumpkin patch and corn maze in Dawsonville, GA opens for the season on September 13, 2014. This year’s corn maze is a tribute of the 150th anniversary of the civil war in Georgia.

Uncle Shuck’s Corn Maze is a 12 acre field of corn that has approximately 4 miles of trails, twisting and turning, and sometimes, coming to a dead end! Each year they have a new and challenging maze for you. They’ll also have checkpoints in each maze, work individually or as a team to find all the checkpoints.

Uncle Shuck’s maze is designed to be challenging, but still allows visitors to exit at any time that they wish. An average journey will take as little as 30 minutes to complete one maze, or as long as 2 hours to complete both mazes.

The Corn Maze is $10, or you may want to purchase the Cob Combo for a Hayride & the Corn Maze for only $13! (save $2)Try the Corn Cannon while you’re there! Only $1 to shoot 3 ears of corn.

The Haunted Maze starts evenings in October. Open every Friday and Saturday night in October! Also opening on Sunday Oct. 12, and Saturday Nov. 1st! Entry to the Dark Rows haunted trail begins at dark, with the last tickets sold at 10:00PM.

  • Ages 12 and under must be accompanied in maze with a parent.

Hillcrest Orchards Fall 2014 Apple Picking Season

Hillcrest Orchards debuts their Apple Pickin’ Jubilee on September 6, 2014 and it runs every weekend through October. This is the only time that you can pick your own apples at this orchard.

Pick your fun at the annual “Apple Pickin’ Jubilee” where you can pick your own apples, milk a cow, watch live pig races, walk a nature trail, visit the petting farm ($3.00 per person), take a wagon ride through the orchard, visit the Moonshine Museum and watch live bands and cloggers on the Hillcrest Stage.

Visit the playground, fly on a zip line and ride their giant slide down the mountain. NEW kids playground, hillbilly mini golf, an apple adventure museum and cow train ride around the orchard for extra fun. Jump for Joy on the Giant Jumping Pillow!

Visit the bakery and ice cream parlor for homemade fried apple pies, apple cider doughnuts, apple fritters, homemade ice cream and fudge. Wash it all down with some fresh cold apple cider. APPLE ORCHARDS / CORN MAZES / FARMS IN NORTH GEORGIA

It is the start of apple season and the orchards are opening!  Here is a directory of apple orchards and festivals in North Georgia. There are also corn mazes opening from Buford to Uncle Shuck’s to the North Georgia corn maze! Cagle’s Family Farm, Warbington Farms and Kinsey Family Farm are also a fun-filled place to visit.

7:00 pm – Macbeth at Forsyth Central High School. Acclaimed as William Shakespeare’s greatest tragedy, the action-packed show is full of intricate sword combat, and lots of tricks and special effects.  Macbeth runs Thursday October 24th and Thursday, October 31 at 7 p.m., and Friday October 25th at 6:30 p.m. Advanced tickets are now on sale for $10/$5 for students and can be purchased online or at the door the night of each performance.  Performances are at the Central High School Performing Arts Center, 520 Tribble Gap Road, Cumming, GA  30040. Recommended for older audiences.

10:30 am – Grand opening of Pollo Tropical at 1510 Marketplace Blvd in Cumming, GA!  The Cumming community will celebrate the newest Pollo Tropical opening with a 12-Hour Beach Party – turning thoughts of falling leaves into frolicking palm fronds, island music, beach games, and of course delicious food from the tropics!  One lucky Grand Opening Beach Party attendee will even win Free Pollo Tropical for a Year!* Participants are being urged to arrive as early as 8:00 a.m. to be among the first 100 guests in line for the restaurant’s 10:30 a.m. opening.  Participants must be present to win, and the drawing and winner announcement take place at 11:00 a.m. See website for contest details.

11:00 am – 3:00 pm – Farmers Market at Vickery Village – There is a new farmers market in Cumming, GA! Come stock up for the weekend on farm fresh produce, local meats, poultry, and eggs as well as local artisan products such as bread, cheese, jellies, probiotic drinks, soaps and more. Also, order fresh wild caught seafood for delivery at the market from Tom’s Awesome Seafood.

APPLE ORCHARDS / CORN MAZES / FARMS IN NORTH GEORGIA

It is the start of apple season and the orchards are opening!  Here is a directory of apple orchards and festivals in North Georgia. There are also corn mazes opening from Buford to Uncle Shuck’s to the North Georgia corn maze! Cagle’s Family Farm and Kinsey Family Farm are also a fun-filled place to visit.

Hillcrest Orchards also debuts their apple pickin’ jubilee on September 7, 2013 and it runs every weekend through October. This is the only time that you can pick your own apples at this orchard. Pick your fun at the annual “Apple Pickin’ Jubilee” where you can pick your own apples, milk a cow, watch live pig races, walk a nature trail, visit the petting farm ($3.00 per person), take a wagon ride through the orchard, visit the Moonshine Museum and watch live bands and cloggers on the Hillcrest Stage.

Hillcrest Orchards is open daily: 9:00am – 6:00pm (Sept. – Oct.) 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (Nov.) Admission is $7.00 per person. Click here for directions and more information. Apple varieties: Golden & Red Delicious, Granny Smith, Fuji, Pinata, Ambrosia, Gala & Honey Crisp with more coming in. Pig races are at 12:30 pm, 2:30 pm & 4:30 pm each day of the festival.

Cagle’s Family Farm in Canton, GA opens Labor Day weekend! Fall fun at the farm starts this weekend. Enjoy their 13th annual corn maze and lots of kid friendly activities. There is also a haunted barn opening Oct. 4 – Nov. 2 for older folks. Open weekends from August 30 through November 17th. Hours are as follows:
