5:30 pm – 10:00 pm – The Final Countdown: A Teen’s New Year’s Eve Party hosted by Music Authority. Music Authority’s Final Countdown is an 18 AND UNDER event and a safe way to spend your New Year’s Eve. Rock the night away with live music, great coffee and a balloon drop to close out the party right here in Forsyth County. Presented by Music Authority and The Warehouse, the coffee shop will be open, concessions and merchandise will be available for purchase, and let’s not forget that some of the best young bands in the area will be performing. Here are local Christmas light shows in and around Forsyth County, GA for the 2017 holiday season!

The Christmas in Castille light show is located at 4220 Tivoli Way, Alpharetta, GA 30004. The show starts at 6 PM and runs until 9 PM on Thursdays – Saturdays through Dec 23rd. Lanier Islands Christmas – nightly – 5:00 pm – 10:00 pm. Happy House in Cumming, 5455 Young Deer Dr Cumming GA 30041. The Christmas lights are on daily from 6pm until 10pm from now til January 1. Happy House has 100,000 + lights and named Happy House by the children in the neighborhood. No fancy music or wild flashing lights more like an Old Fashioned Christmas enjoyed by young and old.

Canton Christmas Light Show

Holiday Lights at Veterans Park, 7345 Cumming Highway, Canton, GA 30115. The new park in Cherokee Co. on Highway 20 North side just outside Forsyth has an unbelievable one million lights display. It’s $20 a car load! Nightly at 6:00 pm through January 6, 2018.

Cumming Greek Festival from October 20 – October 22, 2017

It is the Cumming Greek Festival’s 13th year! Come and dance and yell “OPA” with them on their 16 acre property off Bethelview Road in Cumming GA. Location: Saints Raphael, Nicholas and Irene Greek Orthodox Church; 3074 Bethelview Road Cumming, GA 30040.

The Cumming Greek festival is Forsyth County’s largest ethnic event and will last for 3 days. It offers the community a unique opportunity to experience the rich Greek culture. The continuous live Greek music and traditional bouzouki will fill you while you enjoy energetic live traditional Greek dance performances.

Let the scents of oregano and garlic, and the fragrance of coffee and cinnamon take you back to a simpler yet tastier place. Their cooks know the secrets to fine Greek cuisine and with all food items available continuously during the Festival hours you can take this trip as often as you’d like.

iRun BYOT – Forsyth County Schools and the Forsyth BYOT Benefit are partnering to hold the second annual iRun, a 5K race and Fun Run.  The run will take place on October 7 at Shiloh Point Elementary with the 5K starting at 8:00 am and the Fun Run at 9:00 am.  The funds raised from this event will help to provide home internet access and computing devices for students throughout our district.  There is a competition among schools to see which has the most participation.  Register or donate to help our school win!

This years’ design features some of Georgia’s happy wildlife neslted into their forest home! Uncle Shuck’s Maze is a 12 acre field of corn that has approximately 4 miles of trails, twisting and turning, and sometimes, coming to a deadend! Opening weekend is Sept. 9-10, 2017, come and kick off this year’s fall season. October 21 from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm – Forsyth County Trunk or Treat Safety Event at the Cumming Fairgrounds. Bring the whole family and have fun while learning how to stay safe this Halloween during the seventh annual Trunk or Treat Safety Event. The family-friendly event will be held at the Cumming Fairgrounds on Saturday, October 21, from 6 to 9 p.m. Admission is one family-sized bag of candy per family. Children are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes to Trunk or Treat, which will feature a variety of fun activities and games. There will also be information on costume safety, pedestrian safety, stranger danger, stop-drop-roll demonstrations and more.

October 28 from 4:00 pm – 6:30 pm – Halloween Trick or Treat & Monster Mash Dance Off at The Collection Forsyth. Join the Monster Mash Dance-off, hang out at the Creation Station for fall crafting, costume parade, games, pizza from Mellow Mushroom, and Treats from our wonderful restaurants and retailers.

October 28 from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm – Fall festival at First Baptist Cumming. 1597 Sawnee Drive, Cumming, GA. Inflatables, cake walk, petting zoo, hay rides, giveaways, food, trunk or treat and more!

October 28 – 1:00 pm – 8:00 pm – Halloween Egg Haunt at Warbington Farms. Join “Count Cottontail” and the rest of the farm for a “Halloween Egg HAUNT” on Saturday, October 28, at Warbington Farms. The event is FREE WITH Fun Park admission ($12 per person)

There will be four egg haunts:

7:30 (bring a flashlight and geared for older kids)

Dress up in your cutest or scariest costume and win a prize! We will have a costume contest for under three and over three at EACH Egg Haunt. Winners will win Fun Park tickets, CASH, and other prizes. The contest will take place 10 minutes before each Egg Haunt starts. Please be at pavilion gate 10 minutes before the Haunt if you want to participate in the contest. Admission ($12 per person) includes the Egg Haunt, CORN MAZE, hayride, petting zoo, corn crib, slides, swings, playground and MORE! The farm will be open 10am-10pm. October 28 from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm – Forsyth County Parks & Recreation is hosting their inaugural Family Fun Fest and Haunted Trail on Saturday, October 28 at the Sawnee Mountain Preserve Visitor Center. The free event will feature family crafts, games and nature-themed activities. Also included in the festivities will be a Halloween costume contest for all ages and a haunted trail for ages eight and up. The event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., with the costume contest at 6:30 p.m. and the haunted trail beginning at 7 p.m. The Sawnee Mountain Preserve Visitor Center is located at 4075 Spot Road.

October 29 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm – Trunk or Treat at Midway United Methodist Church. Trick-or-treaters make the rounds in a parking lot full of cars with decorated trunks giving candy and other treats. Come earlier in the afternoon and visit our pumpkin patch at our historic chapel, where you can play games, listen to a professional storyteller share fall and kid-friendly Halloween tales, find a tasty treat at the bake sale, take your fall pics in a beautifully decorated spot, and buy pumpkins to take home for carving. October 29 from 4:00 pm – 6:30 pm. Trunk or Treat at Christ Community Church – Fall is here and we are so excited for Fall Festival. Join us for a “SUPER” themed Trunk or Treat, Chili cook-off, inflatables for kids, and a Box-MAZE. Come out Sunday, October 29th from 4:00-6:30pm. Don’t forget to invite your friends, family, neighbors, co-workers. This will be a great time for the whole family!

October 29 from 6:00 pm – Fall Family Festival and Trunk or Treat at Concord Baptist Church. Come Join the FUN!! Concord Baptist Fall Festival!! There will be Truck-Or-Treating, Games, Cake Walk, PopCorn, Snow Cones, Moon Walk, Big Slide, Obstacle Course, Candy, Candy and More Candy. Oh, did I mention hot dogs, chip and drinks? October 29 from 5:00 – 7:30 pm – Trunk or Treat at Vickery Village. ReThink Group will host their annual Trunk or Treat event for children in our community. Kids in costume and their parents are invited to join us starting at 5 pm on October 30th for Trunk or Treating at Vickery Village and other Halloween festivities.

October 31 from – 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm – New Hope United Methodist Church is hosting their annual Trunk n’ Treat on Tuesday, October 31st, from 6-8pm.  Admission is free & all are welcome to attend! The first 100 trunk n’ treaters will receive a free Kona Ice & trick or treat bag! There will be games, a bounce house, food, & baked goods- all free! LIBRARY EVENTS

The Cumming, Hampton Park, and Post Road branches will host Trick-or-Treat Storytime events October 26 through 31 featuring family-friendly Halloween stories, music, and activities. Children are invited to dress up and participate in a costume parade around the library as they trick-or-treat with library staff. Visit the library’s online event calendar for a listing of Trick-or-Treat Storytime programs.

After Halloween, come celebrate Latin American culture and El Día de los Muertos, or The Day of the Dead, with storyteller Barry Stewart Mann at the Cumming Library on Thursday, November 2 at 6:30 p.m. This special One World Forsyth program will be hosted during the library’s regularly scheduled Twilight Tales storytime and is sponsored by FCPL Friends & Advocates, an independent non-profit organization that raises funds for library programs and materials through sales at the Friends Bookstores. Barry Stewart Mann’s captivating program includes a selection of stories and poetry from Mexico and across Latin America told in both English and Spanish.

HALLOWEEN EVENTS NEAR FORSYTH COUNTY

Trunk or Treat Dawsonville October 31 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at Rock Creek Park, Dawsonville, GA – Come out to Rock Creek on Halloween 4:00-7:00PM to trunk-or-treat with your family! The purpose of this event is to provide the children in the community with a safe place to trick-or-treat. Rock Creek is a well-lit area that provides plenty of parking, restrooms, and easy access! We will designate a specific area in the park for the trunk-or-treat and have it sectioned off so that vehicle traffic will not be permitted, providing a traffic-free area for the children. Admission is free and so are most of the activities; concessions/dinner will be available for purchase. CANDY, treats/toys, promotional items/freebies, carnival games, bounce house, hay rides, face painting, MORE CANDY! Sorry, no pets (service animals only, please).

Trick or Treat Dahlonega – Ghosts, goblins, witches, wizards and more will be wandering the streets of Downtown Dahlonega on October 31st, 2017 at Trick-or-Treat Dahlonega. This event, brought to the community by the Dahlonega-Lumpkin County Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Merchants, provides a safe environment for parents to bring children trick or treating during daylight hours. The event will take place on October 31st from 5:30pm to 7:30pm, rain or shine. Trick-or-Treat Dahlonega is intended for children ages 12 and under and appropriate costumes are appreciated! For safety reasons, the roads will be closed and re-routed during the event.

Cumming Country Fair and Festival from October 5 – October 15, 2017

cumming country fair 2016A benefit of living in Cumming, GA is experiencing the wonders of a small town while still being able to visit the big city of Atlanta.

The Cumming Country Fair & Festival at the Cumming Fairgrounds is one of those wonders and it runs from October 5 – October 15, 2017.

October is a fun time of year in Forsyth County as it becomes a destination for many people in the metro Atlanta area that seek out country fair and festival fun in North Georgia.

There are lots of special promotions and coupons running for the fair and lots of entertainment schedule for the event.

What are your tips for people new to the Cumming Country Fair? Since it has gotten more crowded over the years, my tip is to go during the weekday afternoon if you can. We have gone during lesser crowds and with younger kids, it has been a less stressful way to go!
