Weekend Events for Cumming, GA for January 31 – February 2, 2014

snow angelsWell, this week is certainly one for the Georgia history books. I hope that your families are safe and warm at home.

I also hope that we can somehow learn from this ice storm for the future. One bright spot was hearing about the amazing good samaritans that offered help to those in need. I am thankful for our local police, firefighters, teachers, churches, businesses and citizens, for that is what community is all about.

I know we are looking to venture out of the house this weekend! Here’s a roundup of things to do in Forsyth County. As always, please comment and share if you hear of any other events!

Paint Your Own Pottery – A Fun Indoor Family Activity

This summer my daughters and I visited the new paint your own pottery store Glazed & Fired in Cumming, GA. We had bought a coupon and ventured to Glazed & Fired to make daddy his Father’s Day gift.

When we arrived, we were greeted by a friendly woman who showed us what we needed to do to paint our pottery. First, we picked out what we wanted to paint – there were many items to choose from – from ceramic animals and picture frames to trays and larger items like vases. My four year old picked out a rabbit and my 8 year old picked out a coffee mug.

Then we had to put on an apron and pick out the colors of paint. The girls picked from a colorwheel and then got a tray of about four colors. Then the painting began! After a few coats and colors, the girls decided they were finished. We turned in our aprons and washed up. We gave our painted pottery to the Glazed & Fired people. They explained that they would have to put a glaze on it and then fire it in the oven so it would be available to pick up in a few days. Please be sure to plan ahead if you are going to paint something for a special occasion and remember to give yourself about an extra week.

Glazed and Fired is also offering lots of fun classes for adults and kids. They have canvas painting classes, children story times, adult paint nights, host parties and much more! Check out their calendar for events and details. We will definitely be back!
