Friday, October 17

11:15 am – Post Road Library – Fire Safety Event. Join the Forsyth County Fire Department to teach your kids how to be safe around fires and learn what to do if there is a fire in your home. After the presentation, kids can make crafts and check out a real fire truck outside! For preschool and elementary children. No registration required.

11:15 am – 12:00 pm – Cumming Library – Read, Build, Play is an interactive story time that encourages development of early literacy in preschoolers. The program is designed for children ages 2-5 accompanied by a caregiver and is approximately 45 minutes long. It includes stories, music, activites, and play time all related to a creative theme.

11:15 AM – 11:45 am – Hampton Park Library – Preschool Pals Story time – These 30 minute programs are designed to promote language, listening, and pre-reading skills by offering vocabulary development, experiences with a variety of literature, and participation in language-related activities.  Hear stories, sing songs, and develop the skills needed to become a successful reader. This program is suggested for children, ages 3-5, with a caregiver. Advance registration is not required for this program.

7:00 pm – Warbington Farms Haunted Trail. There are two “Haunted Trail Nights” in October. The Haunted Farm Trail is October 3rd & 17th – the trail opens at dusk and last ticket sold at 9 pm. There is a $7 admission for Haunted Trail, fire-pit, and marshmallows! Are you brave enough to walk through the trail?? Beware…only the COWS can hear you SCREAM!

Saturday, October 18

9:00 am – 12:00 pm – Rivers Alive Cleanup. Keep Forsyth County Beautiful seeks volunteers for waterway cleanup event. Make a positive impact on local waterways by joining Keep Forsyth County Beautiful (KFCB) for the 2014 Rivers Alive Cleanup on Saturday, October 18, at 9 a.m. KFCB encourages families, co-workers, scout troops and organizations to volunteer for the annual waterway cleanup event. Volunteer teams can register for the event by calling KFCB at 770.205.4573 or by clicking on the volunteer tab at www.keepforsythcountybeautiful.org. Volunteers will meet at Mary Alice Park (1820 Mary Alice Park Road in Cumming) at 9 a.m. on October 18 to gather supplies. Volunteers will proceed to clean as many lake, river and wetland locations as possible before returning to Mary Alice Park for lunch.

10:00 am – 12:00 pm – Michaels Kids Club Event: Fun Frankenstein Mask. Let the kids craft while you shop, and then they get to take their creativity home with them! Just $2 per 30-minute session – including supplies. Ages 3 & up welcome!

10:00 am – 5:00 pm – Doggie Palooza at Rucker Pet on Keith Bridge Road, Cumming, GA. Doggie Palooza Dog Show, Parade of Breeds, K-9 demos and more! Located at 3540 Keith Bridge Road, Cumming, GA.

11:00 am – Barnes & Noble – The Collection Forsyth. Zombie in Love story time.

11:00 am – Cumming Library Scarecrow Fall Festival story time. Join us for a scarecrow themed storytime featuring books, music and activities celebrating fall! Children will also create theme related crafts and explore the Storywalk in the Secret Garden behind the library that will be specially decorated by the Masters Gardeners.

11:15 am – 12:00 pm – Post Road Library – Saturday Family Storytime. Start your weekend off right at the Post Road Library. We’ll have stories, dancing, and fun! This storytime is great for the whole family!

Sunday, October 19

All Weekend

Cumming Greek Festival Oct. 17 – 19  Friday from 3 – 10 pm, Saturday from 11 am – 10 pm, Sunday from 11:30 am – 6 pm. Adults $1, children 12 and under are free. This is our 10th Anniversary! Come and dance and yell “OPA” with us on our 16 acre property off Bethelview Road in Cumming GA. The Cumming Greek festival is Forsyth county’s largest ethnic event and will last for 3 days. It offers the community a unique opportunity to experience the rich Greek culture. The continuous live Greek music and traditional bouzouki will fill you while you enjoy energetic live traditional Greek dance performances. Read more for directions and parking information.

Hillcrest Orchards Apple Picking Jubilee – where you can pick your own apples, milk a cow, watch live pig races, walk a nature trail, visit the petting farm ($3.00 per person), take a wagon ride through the orchard, visit the Moonshine Museum and much more.

Uncle Shuck’s Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch is open for the fall season! Get lost in the corn maze, pick out a pumpkin, shoot the cannon, take a hayride and more!

10:00 am – Lowe’s Build and Grow. Build a haunted house! Halloween’s right around the corner. Get your kids in the spirit by bringing them into Lowe’s to build their own spooky Haunted House!

10:00 am – 3:00 pm – Purple Palooza VII at the Cumming Home Depot on Market Place Blvd. Health and harvest fair. Free health screenings from community physician offices, meet with some of our local physicians, merchandise for sale, local businesses promoting their products. DJ and live entertainment, face painting, moonwalks, cakewalks and much more.

11:00 am – 4:00 pm – Warbington Farms Join us for our Pumpkin Palooza this Saturday (10/11) from 11am-4pm. We will have vendors, live music, crafts for the kids, & MORE! Price is $8 kids and $5 adults and includes unlimited time in our fun park (hayride, petting zoo, inflatables, corn crib, tire yard, slides, playground, and MORE).

11:00 am – Barnes & Noble – The Collection Forsyth. Join us for Star Wars Reads Day. Join us for Stars Wars Reads Day III – a fun-filled day of giveaways and activities in stores nationwide for Star Wars fans of all ages. Check your local store for event details.

2:00 pm – Post Road Library. Star Wars Reads Day. Fans of The Force will gather at the Post Road Library to celebrate the second annual FCPL Star Wars Reads Day on Sunday, October 12. Meet Star Wars characters from the 501st Legion, create Empire-approved and Jedi-certified crafts, enter the Wookiee Calling Contest, and try your hand at trivia and other stellar activities! Win books, posters, and other prizes. Crafts are ongoing all afternoon! Wear your costumes for the costume parade! No registration required to attend.

9:00 am – 12:00 pm – Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office – It’s that time of year again! Come by and see us at the both Home Depot locations (1000 Market Place Blvd and 2635 Peachtree Parkway) for the Celebrating Safe Communities event on Saturday October 4th from 9 a.m. till 12 p.m.

9:00 am – 1:00 pm – Central Park Community Yard Sale. Forsyth County Parks and Recreation invites you to visit the Central Park Recreation Center parking area for a community yard sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 4. Event organizers expect attendees to have the opportunity to browse the yard sale for items such as household goods, furniture, clothing, children’s toys and more. 2:30 pm – 5:00 pm – Forsyth County Senior Services Fall Concert at Sexton Hall Enrichment Center. “Autumn’s Refrain: A Fall Concert.” The concert will feature live music by the Sounds of Sawnee Concert Band. Light refreshments are included in the admission price. The cost is $5 in advance and $8 at the doors, which open at 2 p.m. on October 5. For more information, call Senior Services at 770.781.2178. Sexton Hall Enrichment Center is located at 2115 Chloe Road, just off of Sharon Road between Peachtree Parkway and Old Atlanta Road.
