pick your own apples orchards north georgiaFall is here which means football, pumpkin patches, corn mazes and apple picking! We love to visit an apple orchard in North Georgia and pick apples for the day. It’s a wonderful way to visit North Georgia and see our beautiful state.

Please call ahead as details can change before you plan your trip. Also, most apple orchards have a Facebook page as well as a website so you can get last minute event details.

Here is a list of a few North Georgia apple orchards. I have also written in more detail about Hillcrest Orchards Apple Picking Season.

Ellijay, GA

B.J. Reece Apple House & Orchards – This apple house has a wonderful bakery as well as pick your own apples. They have wagon rides, petting farm, , scavenger hunt, apple cannons, inflatable pillow, hayrides on weekends. Prices and packages are on their website. Scavenger hunt, apple cannon (extra), BBQ. Hillcrest Orchards – This orchard is chock full of family activities including Apple Picking Jubilee fun through Oct. music, pig races, BBQ, over 20 activities. Hours 9 am – 6 pm Sat and Sun through October. 9696 Ga. 52 E, Ellijay, GA. 706-273-3838.
Red Apple Barn at Little Bend Orchard – You pick apples and pumpkins. Pick your own Wildflowers too! Hay rides, get a cup of cold cider, apple cider doughnut and opportunity to pick an apple. Hours: 9 am – 6 pm Mondays – Saturdays, 12:30 – 5:30 pm Sundays. You pick apples 10:30 am – 5 pm. Saturdays 1 – 4 pm through October or until all have been picked. 3379 Tailscreek Road, Ellijay, GA. 706-635-5898.
R&A Orchards – Free admission and wagon ride. Roadside market. Pick your own apples. Hours are 9 am – 6 pm daily. Orchards open 10 am – 5 pm Saturdays and Sundays in September. 5505 Ga 52 East, Ellijay, GA. 706-273-3821.
Georgia Apple Festival – Oct 14 & 15 and Oct. 21 & Oct. 22, 2017. Location is at the Lions Club Fairgrounds on 1729 South Main the 2nd & 3rd weekends of October. There are around 300 vendors that participate each weekend with music, car shows, entertainment and of course about any kind of specialty products from the vendors. Ellijay Lions Club Fairgrounds, 1729 South Main Street, Ellijay, GA 30540. Phone: 706-636-4500. Saturday 9:00 am – 6:00 pm, Sunday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. Adults $5, children under 10 are free. Parking is limited, shuttle buses are recommended to take. The antique car show is held at the Civic Center on October 14th. The parade is on October 21st and begins at 10 AM in historic downtown Ellijay.
Location is at 1 Broad Street on the downtown Ellijay square the 2nd & 3rd weekends of October. Stroll around downtown Ellijay and enjoy the sites. There are typically 50-60 vendors up the street by the Courthouse. There is of course plenty of apples, local food vendors and a wide variety of other unique arts and crafts. The second weekend is the downtown parade which is one of the biggest in the area. Hours: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm Saturday and Sunday during the Apple Festival dates.
Blue Ridge, GA
Mercier Orchards – Blue Ridge, GA – Apple U-PICK – Weekends through October – Prices: Tractor tours, apple u-pick, tractor tours, hard cider tours. Try out their new apple cannon! Hours: Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00am – 4:00pm. This event is weather permitting. If you are making a long trip to see us, call ahead to confirm.  Varieties: The types of apples ready to be picked varies throughout the season. If you are looking for a specific variety of apple, feel free to call us for an estimate on when it will be available. We are currently picking Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Rome, Cameo, Topaz, Jonagold, Granny Smith, Mutsu, Braeburn, Jonaprince, September Wonder, Ambrosia, and McIntosh apples. These apples are first come first served, so get here early if you’re looking for a specific type! You can also pick a pumpkin! They also have a bakery, deli, market store, and farm winery. Hillcrest Orchards Fall 2017 Apple Picking Season

hillcrestVisit Hillcrest Orchards farm market this weekend for fresh picked apples! The bakers are cooking up hot apple pies, cider doughnuts and apple fritters hot out of the fryer. Hop on the wagon for a relaxing ride through the orchard. Visit the petting farm with a new crop of baby farm animals waiting to be hugged and petted.

Hillcrest Orchards also debuts their Apple Pickin’ Jubilee on September 9, 2017 and it runs every weekend through October 29. This is the only time that you can pick your own apples at this orchard. Pick your fun at the annual “Apple Pickin’ Jubilee” where you can pick your own apples, milk a cow, watch live pig swimming races, walk a nature trail, visit the petting farm, take a wagon ride through the orchard and watch live bands and cloggers on the Hillcrest Stage.

Visit the playground, fly on a zip line and ride a giant slide down the mountain. There is a new kids play area for extra fun. You can even get your picture made on one of their live steers. Jump for Joy in the Giant Jumping Pillow! Get Lost in the New Corny Kids’ Maze! Check out their Visitor’s Guide for all of the attractions and activities.

Visit the bakery and ice cream parlor for homemade fried apple pies, apple cider doughnuts, apple fritters, homemade ice cream and fudge. Wash it all down with some fresh cold apple cider. They will have the grill fired up outside in the festival area for hamburgers, hotdogs and barbecue along with Billy Bob’s famous boiled peanuts, turkey legs and roasted corn.

2:00 pm – 5:00 pm – Trunk or Treat at Warbington Farms – Come trick-or-treat in a safe environment while enjoying a crisp fall day on the farm. Walk from trunk to trunk of vehicles filled with spooks and surprises! Plenty of candy for everyone! Event is free with fun park admission ($10) which also includes Corn Maze, hayride, petting zoo, jumbo pillow, corn crib, slides, swings & more activities. Come dressed in costume and receive $1 off admission (adults & children). The 49th Annual Mountain Moonshine Festival in Dawsonville, GA – October 21 – 23, 2016

8:00 AM – Fairy Tale Dash 5K/1 Mile for Jesse’s House Foster Home. Once upon a time there lived princesses that needed rescuing. These princesses all had one thing in common: their lives weren’t quite at the happily ever after chapter yet. They had endured dragons, evil queens, and so much more. They came to the kingdom for safety and protection. On October 15, 2016, come dressed up to run or walk in support of these princesses. Fairy Tale Dash for Jesse’s House offers a certified 5K course starting at Fowler Park continuing onto the beautiful Forsyth Big Creek Greenway and finishing coming back into the park. The 5k begins at 8am and is a flat, fast course. This race will be a 2017 Peachtree Road Race qualifier. Packet Pick Up is at Academy Sports in The Collections on Friday, October 14, 2016 1:30pm – 7:30pm. Packet pick up will also be available race day at the Large Pavilion at Fowler Park starting at 7:00am. Registration is now open.

Gold Rush Days in downtown Dahlonega gives you the opportunity to pan for gold, taste food Southern food and hear music from bluegrass, country, gospel and contemporary musicians. The 62nd annual event will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 15 and 16 located at 13 S. Hillcrest Orchards Fall 2016 Apple Picking Season

The bakers are cooking up hot apple pies, cider doughnuts and apple fritters hot out of the fryer. Hop on the wagon for a relaxing ride through the orchard. Visit the petting farm with a new crop of baby farm animals waiting to be hugged and petted.

Hillcrest Orchards also debuts their apple pickin’ jubilee on September 10, 2016 and it runs every weekend through October 30. This is the only time that you can pick your own apples at this orchard. Pick your fun at the annual “Apple Pickin’ Jubilee” where you can pick your own apples, milk a cow, watch live pig swimming races, walk a nature trail, visit the petting farm, take a wagon ride through the orchard and watch live bands and cloggers on the Hillcrest Stage.

Visit the playground, fly on a zip line and ride a giant slide down the mountain. There is a new kids play area for extra fun. You can even get your picture made on one of their live steers. Jump for Joy in the Giant Jumping Pillow! Get Lost in the New Corny Kids’ Maze!

Visit the bakery and ice cream parlor for homemade fried apple pies, apple cider doughnuts, apple fritters, homemade ice cream and fudge. Wash it all down with some fresh cold apple cider. They will have the grill fired up outside in the festival area for hamburgers, hotdogs and barbecue along with Billy Bob’s famous boiled peanuts, turkey legs and roasted corn.

We love to visit an apple orchard in North Georgia and pick apples for the day. It’s a wonderful way to visit North Georgia and see our beautiful state.

Red Apple Barn at Little Bend Orchard – You pick apples and pumpkins ($5-10). Pick your own Wildflowers too! $.25 each. $5 tractor ride and tour, get a cup of cold cider, apple cider doughnut and opportunity to pick an apple $5 per person. Georgia Apple Festival – Oct 10 & 11 and Oct. 17 & Oct. 18, 2015. Location is at the Lions Club Fairgrounds on 1729 South Main the 2nd & 3rd weekends of October. There are around 300 vendors that participate each weekend with music, car shows, entertainment and of course about any kind of specialty products from the vendors. Location is at 1 Broad Street on the downtown Ellijay square the 2nd & 3rd weekends of October – 10/10 – 10/18/15. Stroll around downtown Ellijay and enjoy the sites. There are typically 50-60 vendors up the street by the Courthouse. There is of course plenty of apples, local food vendors and a wide variety of other unique arts and crafts. The second weekend is the downtown parade which is one of the biggest in the area. In 2013, “Ellie Mae”, Donna Douglas from the Beverely Hillbillies was the Grand Marshall. Blue Ridge, GA
Mercier Orchards – Blue Ridge, GA – Apple U-PICK – Weekends through October. Tractor tours. Try out their new apple cannon! Hours: Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00am – 4:00pm. This event is weather permitting. If you are making a long trip to see us, call ahead to confirm.  Varieties: The types of apples ready to be picked varies throughout the season. If you are looking for a specific variety of apple, feel free to call us for an estimate on when it will be available. We are currently picking Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Rome, Cameo, Topaz, Jonagold, Granny Smith, Mutsu, Braeburn, Jonaprince, September Wonder, Ambrosia, and McIntosh apples. There will also be balloon animals and face painting! Also, stick around until 2PM, at that time there will be a balloon release! This fundraiser is to raise money for the Teen Interception Program and the Explorer Program. Atlanta Dragon Boat Festival – Saturday, September 12, 2015 at the Lake Lanier Olympic Venue in Gainesville, GA. Activities commence with races beginning at 7 am and the colorful Opening Ceremonies at noon. The race has grown from a handful of teams and a few spectators to an event which is one of the hallmark diversity events in the metro Atlanta area. The event now boasts a field of more than 50 teams with over 5,000 spectators and a wide variety of Chinese artisans either performing or displaying their wares.
