Our Trip to Snow World at Lake Lanier Islands

IMG_3933Our family recently ventured to Snow World at Lake Lanier Islands to partake in some wintry fun. We packed up our gloves, scarves, hats and coats and drove over to Snow World for the afternoon. We weren’t sure what to expect but we had a fun day of sledding and playing in snow.

We drove up to the gate and told them we were going to Snow World. Parking is $10.00 and they give you a map to navigate the park. We parked in the lot on the right and walked over past the ice skating rink and carnival rides.

We got our wristbands at the front gate. SnowWorld is in its first year and admission is $34.99 for adults  and children (children 2 and under are free.) They also offer senior, group and military discounts. Here is a list of their frequently asked questions.

We started at the Arctic Gap and went on Polar Plummet where they have 13 lanes of tubing. It is located right inside the wave pool! You slide in an inner tube and ride down the tubing lanes. If you want to ride with someone else, the lane on the end is extra wide and you can go down together holding on to each other’s tube straps. We spun around backwards and laughed and screamed all the way down.

There is also a snow play area called Cub’s Landing there.

IMG_3936We then went over to The Ice Kingdom where we found The Wizard’s Chase, a downhill sled racing adventure. In the summertime, it’s a waterslide! You put on a helmet and ride a sled down the two tracks. My girls loved it and went a few times. There is also another kids snow play area called The Frozen Lake & The Frozen Forest which is the splash area in the summer.

We walked over to The Himalayas where we saw a Yeti and rode Intimidator Summit & Triple Peaks, the fastest downhill slides at SnowWorld. You also wear a helmet and ride a sled down the slides at a fast speed.

We went over to Powder Park near the Fundunker and played in the snow. A SnowWorld employee showed us how to make perfect snowballs with these neat snowball makers. We had an awesome snowball fight, Georgia style. They also had other toys to build snow igloo blocks and shovel and scoop the snow.

We worked up an appetite and went to Gianni’s for a slice of pizza and a soda. The pizza was tasty and hit the spot.

There was a fire pit outside of the restaurant and people were making s’mores. You can buy a s’mores kit at SnowWorld.

We stopped in Bucky’s gift shop and found that their Christmas items were 50-75% off. We found an Auburn Tigers ornament and tumbler cup on sale.

We headed back to the Coca-Cola Polar Rink as our last stop. We attempted ice skating, but the surface was really slick. It wasn’t ice, it was a different surface. Some people were skating, some were holding on to the wall.

Here is a description form their website: The Polar Rink is not ice. It is a plastic composite that simulates the surface of an ice rink. (Outdoor ice rinks don’t work so well in Georgia) It is safe to skate on, and the surface is less hard than ice. Although the surface is as slick as ice, there is nothing for your skates to carve into like ice, so the experience differs in that regard. Skates are also free (based on availability).

The carnival rides were just starting when we left. We didn’t get a chance to go on them as the wind and rain were coming and we were cold and ready to head home.

I asked the girls (ages 11 and 8) if they enjoyed our trip and they both yelled a resounding “YES!!!!”

SnowWorld is a fun place for the whole family. I recommend going when they have a promotion (MLK Day) or using coupons as admission is a little pricy.

We had a great time and I’m sure we’ll be back next year!

We’re taking fun to a whole new level this winter season and turning our summertime destination into one big giant SnowWorld. Snow tubing, speed slides, skating, carnival rides, fire pits & more! You’ll also be able to enjoy all the great dining that LanierWorld has to offer! Sunset Cove is now enclosed and will feature a delicious new assortment of dishes, as well as your traditional favorites. We’ll also have Gianni’s open, as well as many other places to stop, warm up with hot cocoa, and enjoy the day.

$5.00 dollar off coupons are available at many of partner locations including: McDonalds, Chick fil a, Publix, and QT. Also, check out our media partner websites for discounts (STAR , FISH and KICKS).

MLK Day – January 19, 2015 – Lanier Islands is teaming up with Goodwill of North Georgia to host a Give Back event. In exchange for bringing a bag of gently used clothes to SnowWorld on Martin Luther King Day, patrons will receive half-price admission. The park is open 10:00 am – 8:00 pm.

Fountains, Spray Parks and Water Fun in and around Forsyth County, GA

A few years ago, I wrote about our love for visiting the free fountains and spray parks around Forsyth County, GA. Now we have a wonderful aquatic center and spray pad in Cumming, GA! The choices are endless for water fun in North Atlanta.

We first visited the fountain at Mall of Georgia and have since ventured out to Suwanee Town Center Park fountain and Playtown as well as Duluth Town Green fountain in Duluth, GA. We also went to the spray park at Riverside Park in Roswell and are excited that we now have a new spray ground  at Old Atlanta Park in Forsyth County!

These locations are wonderful places to visit within 30 minutes of home. Pack a picnic, swimsuit and a change of clothes and off you go!

Playtown is a shady playground and the town center has lots of space for picnics as well as shops and restaurants. Duluth Town Green has shady areas, benches and swings, a playground and surrounding shops and restaurants that make it inviting for an afternoon.

Mall of Georgia has lots of things to do around the fountain and makes for a fun afternoon. Add to these places their events calendars and concerts, art shows and the like are also bringing people to these wonderful parks.

We have also since welcomed the Cumming Aquatic Center and enjoy visiting with a summer pass. The new spray pad at Old Atlanta Park looks to be fun. Add to that the beaches on Lake Lanier and Lake Lanier Islands & LanierWorld and we have quite a selection of water fun! LanierWorld can be pricy, but there are coupons available at places like Chick-fil-a and Publix.

Want to stay home but need ideas of fun things to do outside? Turn on the sprinklers or set up a baby pool in the yard and watch the kids go. Have a water olympics and play games transporting water and water balloons.

There’s lots of water fun to keep cool now that it’s summer!
