The Little Mermaid Jr. at North Forsyth High School November 13 – November 16, 2013

I was dropping off my daughters at Chattahoochee Elementary today and saw a Little Mermaid standing outside waving and greeting the children as they arrived to school. I soon learned that North Forsyth High School Drama department will be showing The Little Mermaid Jr this week! Tickets for the show are $7 and $10 reserved. The Wednesday performance has limited seats left. Breakfast with Ariel is $10 per person. Buy tickets online.

See the working quarry face, the ancient rock deposits, the massive equipment that processes it, and the natural surroundings, as you take the challenge of the Boulder Dash 5k-with the Lafarge Spring Fling awaiting you at the Finish Line! The Spring Fling (starts at 10:30 a.m.) **come see Lafarge’s mining equipment and learn about the quarry!

12:00 pm – 4:00 pm – The Collection Forsyth Unveiling Event – the former The Avenue Forsyth is being rebranded. See what’s new at this free community event with live music from American Idol finalist Isabelle, kids activities, special promotions and two Spring collection fashion shows.

1:00 pm – 4:00 pm – Northside Hospital Forsyth Fashion Show & Art Market at the Atrium. Northside Hospital-Forsyth’s Special Care Nursery is hosting a fundraiser to benefit the March of Dimes’ 2013 Walk for Babies campaign.  The “Mother’s Day” themed event will feature a fashion show, sponsored by Dillard’s and Estee Lauder, and approximately 35 models in the latest fashions for women, men and children.  Many of the models are former preemie babies, born at Northside, or have been recognized as March of Dimes Ambassadors at previous Walk for Babies events. A market of local artists will feature handmade jewelry, artwork, pottery, knit wear and much more.  For the kids, there will be face painting and visits with local police officers.  Pizza and other refreshments, including tasty treats baked by Northside Hospital-Forsyth employees, also will be available for sale. Admittance to the art market is free.  Tickets for the fashion show will be available at the door for a $5 suggested donation.

Play in the Fountains – Near Forsyth County, GA

We had to drop our Kia off at the Buford, GA dealer for maintenance. They were very friendly and took my girls and I to the Mall of Georgia to spend a few hours instead of waiting in a cramped waiting room.

At the Mall, I was pleasantly surprised to find an open area play space that the girls played in for a few minutes while we waited for the mall shops to open. We then went to Old Navy for summer clothing deals and grabbed Chick-Fil-A lunch in the food court. A $2.00 carousel ride later, we ventured outside to get some sun.

We discovered a fountain at Mall of Georgia that had kids running and playing through the water. My girls were shy at first but after awhile they were soon soaked. And it was free entertainment in which they cooled off.

Today we venture back out to Buford to get a boat part for our pontoon and then I’m heading to Suwanee Town Park to visit Play Town and the free water fountain there. I will report on it later this week!

Short-Term Childcare, Kids Stay and Play in and around Forsyth County, GA

Update: Recess by Charley and Play in Roswell have gone out of business. Unfortunately. Great concept.

For families with short term childcare needs, help is here! I don’t have family in town and we don’t know many babysitters. It is nice to know there are options if you ever need to schedule a meeting or doctor’s appointment and need to drop the kids off at a local child care facility. Here are a few that I have found so far.
