Friday, November 21

11:15 am – Cumming Library – Read, Build, Play story time. Read, Build, Play is an interactive story time that encourages development of early literacy in preschoolers. The program is designed for children ages 2-5 accompanied by a caregiver and is approximately 45 minutes long. It includes stories, music, activites, and play time all related to a creative theme.

11:15 am – 11:45 am – Hampton Park Library – Preschool Pals Story time – These 30 minute programs are designed to promote language, listening, and pre-reading skills by offering vocabulary development, experiences with a variety of literature, and participation in language-related activities.  Hear stories, sing songs, and develop the skills needed to become a successful reader. This program is suggested for children, ages 3-5, with a caregiver. Advance registration is not required for this program.

5:15 pm – Post Road Library – Katniss & Peeta Movie marathon. It’s opening night for “Mockingjay!” Want to see all THREE movies tonight?
Watch the first two movies starring Katniss, Peeta and all the other tributes on our big screen with surround sound! At the marathon, enter the drawing to win two free tickets with concessions to Mockingjay TONIGHT, then go see the late showing of  “Mockingjay” at the AMC Theater at the Collection. Pizza and themed snacks will be served. For middle and high school students only. No registration required.

7:00 pm – Barnes & Noble – The Collection Forsyth. Linkee trivia tournament. Linkee is a simple, fast and fun shout-out quiz game with a twist. You don’t win by answering the questions, but by guessing the link between the answers. Recommended for ages 14 and up.

Saturday, November 22

10:00 am – 12:00 pm – Michaels Kids Club Event: DIY felt stocking. Let the kids craft while you shop, and then they get to take their creativity home with them! Just $2 per 30-minute session – including supplies. Ages 3 & up welcome!

10:00 am – Barnes & Noble – The Collection Forsyth. Create with art folds. Customers are invited to transform a book into a piece of art or create an origami heart card using the ArtFolds techniques. Recommended for ages 13 and up. Please arrive early; space and supplies are limited.

11:00 am – Learn to draw like Mo Willems at Barnes & Noble. Story time and activity. Booksellers will help children learn how to draw the beloved Pigeon from Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! with instructions created by the award-winning author and illustrator. Recommended for ages 4 and up.

7:00 pm – Barnes & Noble – The Collection Forsyth. Holiday Fluxx game night. Get introduced to this unexpected holiday card game with ever-changing rules — even the object of the game changes as often as you draw a card and say, “Go”! Recommended for ages 12 and up.

Sunday, November 23

1:00 pm – Barnes & Noble – The Collection Forsyth. Snowmen at Night story time. Ever built a snowman and discovered the next day that his grin has gotten a little crooked, or his tree branch arms have moved? Discover and experience the secret life of snowmen at night. Recommended for children ages 4 and up.

2:00 pm – 3:00 pm – Sharon Forks Library. Teen trivia! Join us for an afternoon of team trivia at the Sharon Forks Library. All questions will be general trivia and we’ll be giving away awesome prizes. This program is for teens grades 6 and up. No registration required!

Lanier Islands Christmas – NOVEMBER 21 – DECEMBER 31, new price $30.00 per car on weekends. Daily admission to Lanier Islands Christmas includes the drive through our twinkling light tour, as well as access to Holiday Village, located at the end of the tour. Also included with daily admission is access to the live nativity (select dates). Admission is per vehicle and is based on what the vehicle has the capacity to hold, not the number of passengers.

Help us celebrate Native American Heritage Month with a special visit from acclaimed storyteller, Barry Stewart Mann.  Through the voices of three historical figures — Sequoyah, inventor of the Cherokee syllabary; Nancy Ward, Beloved Woman; and Dragging Canoe, brave warrior — Barry will Cherokee folklore, customs, and history. Highlights include the creation myth cycle and the tale of the Healing Lake, the challenges posed by European settlement, and details of Cherokee Stickball, the Seven Clans, and the Green Corn ceremony. It’s an engaging, entertaining, and educational portrayal of a fascinating and noble nation. All ages are welcome! No registration required.

Keep Forsyth County Beautiful invites residents to make a positive impact on the environment by recycling their old, unused electronics during the upcoming electronics recycling event. Accepted items for recycling include laptops, stereos, CD players, cell phones, microwaves, cameras and more. The minimum donation per carload drop-off is $5 while an additional $20 fee will apply for each television. Some items, such as large wooden console televisions, projector televisions, toaster ovens and refrigerators, will not be accepted during the event. 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm – 80′s Movie Matinee at Hampton Park Library. Due to licensing restrictions, we can’t advertise the titles of our movies online. However, see if you can guess this week’s film by the following description: An unusual Christmas present called a “mogwai” is given to Billy Peltzer by his dad with three basic rules for caring for the pet: never get him wet, keep him out of bright light, and never feed him after midnight. When Billy inadvertently breaks one of the rules, the consequences multiply at an alarming rate that builds to an explosively suspenseful climax.

Pi Day is March 14 and Mia’s Pizza & East has a math initiative for the kids to do math for a free slice of cheese pizza. Got to love that!
