For years, we have been going to Kinsey Family Farm in Forsyth County, GA to pick out our annual pumpkin. Unfortunately, the Kinsey Farm was hit pretty hard by Irma, so please check their website and FB page for their open times.

The farm features hayrides, barn animals and catfish to feed in the pond among other fun things. There are picnic tables if you would like to bring a picnic lunch. Sample their caramel apples or boiled peanuts (available after 10/1.) They also have a 25,000 square foot nursery and during the holidays you can pick out a Christmas tree and enjoy hot chocolate and marshmallows.

The farm is open every day in October and features a wide variety of pumpkins as well as apples, gourds, corn stalks, indian corn, straw bales, and much more. Check out their fall harvest shop and pick up some apples, salsa, jam, honey, breads, preserves and much more!

The Pumpkin Patch at Cumming First United Methodist Church is located at 770 Canton Highway, Cumming, GA. Opening late afternoon on September 30, the pumpkin patch will be open from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm Saturdays and 12:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Sundays – Fridays throughout the month of October. The Cumming Greek festival is Forsyth county’s largest ethnic event. It offers the community a unique opportunity to experience the rich Greek culture. Pumpkin Palooza at Warbington Farms! Go for a hayride, have fun in the Farm park, visit the petting zoo, pick the pumpkin for the front porch. We will also have vendors every weekend from now until the 27th of October. APPLE ORCHARDS / CORN MAZES / FARMS IN NORTH GEORGIA

It is the start of apple season and the orchards are opening!  Here is a directory of apple orchards and festivals in North Georgia. There are also corn mazes opening from Buford to Uncle Shuck’s to the North Georgia corn maze! Cagle’s Family FarmWarbington Farms and Kinsey Family Farm are also a fun-filled place to visit – check their websites for opening dates.

Hillcrest Orchards apple pickin’ jubilee runs every weekend through October. This is the only time that you can pick your own apples at this orchard. Pick your fun at the annual “Apple Pickin’ Jubilee” where you can pick your own apples, milk a cow, watch live pig races, walk a nature trail, visit the petting farm ($3.00 per person), take a wagon ride through the orchard, visit the Moonshine Museum and watch live bands and cloggers on the Hillcrest Stage. Hillcrest Orchards is open daily: 9:00am – 6:00pm (Sept. – Oct.) 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (Nov.) Cagle’s Family Farm in Canton, GA. Enjoy their 13th annual corn maze and lots of kid friendly activities. There is also a haunted barn opening Oct. 4 – Nov. 2 for older folks. Open weekends from August 30 through November 17th. Hours are as follows:

9:00 am – 5:00 pm – Dahlonega’s Gold Rush Days – it is outside of Forsyth County, but one of the best reasons to take a drive to our neighbors up north and celebrate fall!

10:00 am – 12:00 pm – Cumming Country Fair & Festival – FREE Admission and Rides 10 am -11 am, 2 Ride for the Price of 1 (11 am -3 pm)

11:00 am – 3:00 pm –  Rucker’s DOGGIEPALOOZA celebration!! So, come by Rucker, join in the fun, & meet your new Forever Best Friend!!! Pet adoptions also there instead of Petco on 10/15. The Doggie Palooza Dog Show will begin at 12:00.  There will be great food for a great cause – all proceeds will go to the Humane Societies and Rescue Leagues and Rucker Pet will match what is raised! The Forsyth County K9’s will be showing how the bad guys are caught again. Agility demo for small dogs by Tammy Roberts. Doggone Good Good Photos will be around for win pictures and we will have a band! Rucker Horse & Pet, 3540 Keith Bridge Rd., Cumming, Ga.

6:30 – 9 pm – Central Park Trail n’ Treat  – The Forsyth County Parks and Recreation present the 2nd Annual Trunk or Treat. Bring the whole family and have fun learning how to stay safe. The event will include youth self-defense demos, stranger danger, fire safety and traffic safety information. Also, participants can enjoy candy, face painting, tattoos and food. All ages are welcome. Please bring one bag of candy per family for admission to the event. Also, bring a bag to collect candy!

FUNDRAISERS:

A country breakfast held by the VFW Post 3143 Ladies Auxiliary will be from 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 15 at 1045 Dahlonega Hwy. Adult plates are $7 and kids’ are $3. All proceeds will benefit cancer research.

The “Run for Hope” twilight 5K and 1-mile run/walk at 5 p.m. Oct. 15 at First Redeemer Church, 2100 Peachtree Pkwy. The benefit is a fundraiser for the Whispering Hope Women’s Resource and Pregnancy Center. For more information, go online at www.frcsports.org.

Friendship Christian School, 3160 Old Atlanta Road, will have a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 15. Funds will help with classroom improvements. For more information, call (678) 845-0418.

Treat the Troops will have its Thanksgiving shipping event at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Cumming library. Bring homemade cookies (six per baggie), candy, travel-sized toiletries, instant drink mixes, forms of media, letters of appreciation and more. Postage donations of $2 a box are appreciated.
